The stupidity of some people never ceases to amaze...
I was just out walking my dog around my complex, when I saw a neighbor put her small toddler in the back seat, get in, and proceed to dial her cell phone.

AFTER she finished dialing, she then put the phone to her ear, backed out and drove away...

Now, studies have shown that talking on the phone while driving is roughly equivalent to driving drunk.

So, she basically just chose to drive drunk with her baby in the car.

The part that kills me though, is that she stayed parked UNTIL she was done dialing. Why not wait until her converstaion was done? Or better yet, why not call from the house and THEN get in the car?!?!?

1. What if you're a good drunk driver?
Never thought about that, did ya?

3. The most dangerous part is the dialing.
Talking isn't a problem for most people, it's the dialing and the answering and the texting that make it as dangerous as drunk driving.

There are those who can't talk and drive, but most of them are the type who can't drive, anyway. An example: I recently watched a man answer his cell phone while driving, then apparently decide it was too dangerous to talk and drive, so he just stopped. In the middle of a highway service road with a 50 mph speed limit. He just sat there and chatted for as long as I watched him in my rear-view mirror.

There ain't nothing that can make some people safe drivers.

4. This study looked at just the conversation, not dialing or texting:

5. Sort of, but it's a weak study.
They tested someone clearly distracted (doesn't matter the cause) against others who were clearly not distracted, and proved that driving while distracted leads to more accidents than driving while not distracted. They didn't check conversations within the car, listening to favorite music or political talk radio, trying to understand directions from someone, digging in your pocket for toll change, reading billboards...

It's a weak study. Obviously being distracted makes one a worse driver. They didn't demonstrate that talking on a cell phone was a greater distraction than a vast number of legal activities.

6. Talking on the phone while driving
is roughly equivalent to driving drunk. Come on that's bullshit. The part about staying parked while driving makes sense to me. She was looking at the phone and not the road, therefore she dialed and then drove. I have done this several times. Call up my friend, put it in drive and say hey I'm on my way goodbye. I see nothing wrong with her behavior.
