My electronic cigarette broke last week
Even though I'm a big fan of it when it works, The Smoking Everywhere brand of cigarette is an overpriced piece of shit that breaks after 3 months of use. Their customer service, though prompt to answer the phone (with real people), are effectively worthless. In the last 2 months I've had to replace the batteries, the atomizer, another battery, and the atomizer again (this time taking 2 weeks to get to my house). If you're keeping count, I've essentially bought 2.5 electronic cigarettes all over again and it's STILL FUCKING BROKEN.

I started combing the interwebz for a solution. I found the DSE 901 generic model to be a far superior value. It comes with the standard two batteries, but it also includes 2 atomizers instead of 1(nice). The vapor is just as full as the Smoking Everywhere Gold. The parts are far cheaper too, since they're generic in the realm of E-Cigs. They also just released a usb to cig adapter allowing you to smoke using your computer (literally) and saving battery life. I think I'm in love.

1. You are the first I have heard of to have problems.
Of course, I think most of the people I know have effectively quit in a 2 month time frame..............

Sorry you are having a problem with them. I am going to ask my friends that have them how things are going for them.

Hang in there.

2. I already have the replacement
It's cool. I've only had to buy like 5 to 10 packs of cigarettes this year, total. I really don't care to smoke real smoke anymore. It bothers my throat. I do, though, fully enjoy my fake cigarette. Especially at work.

3. Go snatch one out of the hands of the people at the mall.
I see them there....they're sitting out on their stools at the kiosk at the mall, smoking their electric cigarettes and acting like they are the shiznit. Knock them down a few levels, why don't you?

6. Those companies are so overpriced
I did some research and there's only 3 industry plants that make these things in China. So, you're effectively paying three times the price to hang out with the cool kids at the kiosk.

Thanks, but no thanks. Except for the shoving part.

8. Look in the 'other items' field
The metallic blue one is just like mine, except mine is black. If you dick around online, you'll see that the replacement parts are dirt cheap. Don't forget to order a bottle of Johnson Creek Smoke Juice. That stuff is sent from Raptor Jesus.

12. The starter kit and juice is all you need
Most of the individual items you see for sale are just replacement parts (always good to have a few on hand). I've read the mint flavored juice is for the menthol smoker, but I really don't know. I was a Camel Lights man.

14. There is one downside to e-cigs
You're going to go through the same physical side effects as you would if you quit cold turkey. You're going to cough shit up that would seem out of a horror movie. Your sense of taste is going to go haywire. Your appetite is going to be off. The first day, if you go off cigs completely and go to the e-cig, you'll find it a touch on the weak side to the draw of a normal smoke. The next day or two, though, you'll adjust and in a few weeks, if you have a regular smoke it'll feel and taste like hell.

17. I order directly from China ... Eastmall.net
Edited on Tue Jun-09-09 12:07 PM by Bryn
www.eastmall.net David Yang is wonderful! If you order $200 worth of e-cigarettes, e-liquids, chargers, extra batteries, extra atomizers, passthroughs, shipping is free. It gets here in 5 days (I am in Arkansas). One of batteries didn't work when I got it so I emailed David Yang, he sent a replacement right away without asking me to send back a dead battery. I order from them once a month. I think I am doing to order from ruyandirect.com next (also from China) because of good reviews on them from e-cigarette-forum.) ruyandirect.com sells 30ml e-liquids for 9.50 each.

I am loving my e-cigarettes. So do my mother and my brother in law. I have not touched an analog since April 2 after smoking those awful analogs for 35 years. My coughs, sinus problem, wheezing chest...have gone away! Best invention ever. Wish it was around long time ago!

Did you hear about our government trying to ban this e-cigarette? FDA, Big Pharma companies, Big Tobacco companies, our own dear USA government are pushing for the ban?

Reason for this ban?

Government wants their tax revenue from cigarette tax. They'd rather for us to go back to unhealthy awful stinky analogs.

Big Pharma is losing billions of dollars on their useless smoking cessession...nicotine patchs, nicotine gums, nicotine pills, and other crap.

FDA is in bed with government and pharma and is paid to help them.

Big Tobacco Co..of course..CEOs need their money. From what I understand..Big Tobacco is very surprised how fast and successful e-cigarettes had taken off. They didn't expect it. Now they're crying...they want in...they want a part of this e-cigarette. But it's not theirs. Nicotine, maybe, but e-cigarette itself has nothing to do with tobacco, but is a personal vaporizer. Some users of e-cigarettes don't even use nicotine at all to enjoy "vaping" instead of "smoking" (mouth fixation).

and guess what? Our dear dear DEMOCRATIC senator is pushing it. Imagine that!

(on edit: this democratic senator is pushing to BAN e-cigarettes.) We do need DUers' help to support us e-cigarette users.

Senator seeks to halt sales of 'e-cigarettes'
By KIMBERLY HEFLING

WASHINGTON—A senator is asking the government to prevent the sale of so-called "electronic cigarettes" until more is known about them. E-cigarettes are marketed as a healthier alternative to smoking and as a way to kick the habit. They are smokeless and battery-powered, releasing a nicotine vapor into the lungs.
New Jersey Sen. Frank R. Lautenberg sent the Food and Drug Administration a letter Monday saying that the agency should ensure e-cigarettes are not sold until they've been studied more.
An FDA spokeswoman says the agency will respond directly to the senator regarding his concerns.

19. Next month I'm going to start stocking up
Atomizers and batteries and one or two USB direct chargers. I've read all about this and it's 100% bullshit. Ask any 'vapper' how much better they feel compared to when they smoked regular cigarettes. It's disgusting how they want to take this away from us. But like you said, they can't stop it even if they made it illegal. The parts themselves would just be rebranded. The nicotine solution is nothing more than water, PG (a fairly common and harmless chemical), and nicotine. There's people online who MAKE it themselves.

I envision big tabacco trying to run these companies into the ground and then in two years, you'll see the perfectly legal Camel brand e-cigarette. Which is bullshit. Just like the electric car that can't be safe. I can't even gather my thoughts together it makes me so mad they're trying to take what is (and what will be proven as) a life saver out of our hands.

20. Same here!
me, too. I am going to order more batteries and attys next week. Yes...there are many people who are making e-cigarettes themselves that are awesome. Government won't be able to put us all in jail! It'd be just so silly. I honestly don't think we should be worried. Personal vaporizers are also used by people with asthma..same with PG. Strange! This is to show us all just how corrupted our government is! Perhaps if ban goes into law then more and more truth will come out to shine on them! We will see! I hadn't been able to stop smoking successful for 35 years until I got my first e-cigarette. Best thing ever happened to me! I've completely quit smoking analogs and now am enjoying vaping! :)

23. So...you've had luck with this thing? I've seen it in malls, but it sounds
expensive..even to start off. I realize the long-term benefits of it, which brings me to my next question...

Isn't the FDA investigating this very product because of its questionable health risks? Inhaling this "mist" which was demonstrated to me by a mall "spokesperson" for this brand is supposed to wean you off of the chemicals associated with normal cigarettes. I don't know if he fed me a line of bullshit or what, but he took a drag ( right in front of me, in this non-smoking mall ) and I saw the mist come out...it just...disappeared. What, exactly are you inhaling? I could NOT get a straight answer from this guy!

24. The mall kiosks are bullshit
They're pushing older models at three times the price. You can get a decent model (DSE 901) for 50 bucks. The refill liquid costs me approximately 40 dollars a month. That's less than half of the price of a pack a day habit, for sure.

The mist is a mix of PG and water. In large quantities, PG can be a slight irritant but it's already used in OTC vaporizers. It really is like breathing in nothing. It initially feels like smoke but it doesn't have the 'weight'. Anyhow, I feel infinitely better and PG in itself, is rather harmless so I'm not particularly worried. Actually nicotine is an excellent decongestant.

25. I could take your word for it....it just seems like a product where, somewhere
down the line they find that what you're inhaling is indeed toxic...

Good luck with it....I've been off cold-turkey for about a month now, and man am I craving one something fierce.

28. Please do yourself a favor and go to
www.e-cigarette-forum.com to get all information you need to know. It's all in there! We're gaining members there everyday. You'd be doing us e-cigarette users a great favor. Educate yourself and others on e-cigarettes. I have already made a list of reasons for why they are trying to ban e-cigarettes. Look through this thread.

Don't buy them at the malls! Not only are they expensive, they usually don't work good. There are list of suppliers there on www.e-cigarette-forum.com and there are reviews as well.

I wanna know more about this. I quit smoking a few months ago - but I LOVE smoking. I just don't love the inevitable lung cancer in my future, seeing as how it runs in the family.

Does it really satisfy the smoking urge? Does it feel right?

Interesting.
