How do you feel when you realize that you've misundrstood what you've seen?
That what you thought what was or was not in front of you was not what was or was not actually there?

That shit scares me.

1.  There are a couple fun things you can do with that event.

The first one is to realize how much we interject our own perception and experiences into something else. So if a person says something, many times we hear 10% of what they say, and create 90%, so we really don't listen. Then when we listen again, maybe the 90% we add is different, or we listen to more and realize it is different.

This is where asking questions like a child is helpful, instead of filling in motive or your perception of what another person is thinking, you simple ask, what did you mean, and avoid any learned stereotyping or bias.

But also the mind does pattern matching, so if something by perception falls into a category, its alot easier to just see it as that, instead of forcing yourself to think on it.

But the real fun way to think on it, is to realize it was not that you misperceived it, it was that it changed. It was what you saw the first time, and is something different now, not because you misperceived it, but because it actually changed. Since in anyone's world, their perception of something is what it is, and will be how it interacts on their thinking. (leading many to be confused as they can't understand why others don't react the way they do, but don't realize they are in different worlds based on their perceptions.)

We all float around in our own worlds of perceptions, sometimes only having conversations and experiences with self created things we hear and see as we never listen nor allow new thought in. It is very weird when you see it or think on it. However understanding this, can help you when people mess with your head by taking advantage on pattern matching or bias or desire to want to think a certain way.

Once again a quote from Wesley Wyndham-Pryce.

"The first lesson a Watcher learns is to separate truth from illusion. Because in the world of magic's, it's the hardest thing to do..."

Edit: There is another thing that happens, nearest neural connection. If I say the word 'Mole' what do you think of. A burrowing rodent, a spy, a beauty mark, a TV show. It would depend where your mind currently was. In that sequenced events can walk neural paths along standard story lines to create flows of information above any individual item in the flow.

For instance if a sentence was said about gardening and pest control, then the word Mole is used, the direction or flow of the path way can be guided along a set of neural paths. The memory is primed for association. This is how propaganda and marketing can try and control peoples thinking, by first priming thought then dropping an event that fires off the string of primed associations.

You can see it in trends of news stories or even documentaries, where ideas and memes are primed then later an event is dropped in an attempt to establish a history rewrite or new cultural perception.
