this was how I spent my weekend

The big one was the first one I caught... 15"

I caught the second one (12") a little later, after losing a monster in the weeds.

(no, I don't usually wear my hair like that... I was fishing and needed to keep it out of my face.)

14. I'm going to take her
The fact that she has never been is completely unacceptable. :bounce:

I used to go when I was very young. My parents and two of my sisters are avid fishermen, and I recently found that it is about as therapeutic as it gets (as long as I don't take my son with me, lol).

4. large mouth bass
apparently small mouth put up a better fight, but I'm such a novice I may not be ready for them.

5. I was going to say bass
But I thought trout. I know trout are a bit "rounder", but I said it anyway. It still looks good. I am looking for someone to catch me some perch, I miss it.

6. I caught some a few weeks ago
quite a few actually, but most of them were too small to be worth the effort to clean them.

I don't know much about fishing, living in Arizona we don't have water (just kidding it is pretty popular around the state)

Are bass edible? I know trout are and are popular fishing fish, but never see bass in stores or the other - sunfish? is that what I am thinking of? and bluegills. Those and catfish seem to be the stocked kinds in the lakes around here.

11. Bass, catfish, sunfish and bluegills are all edible
Although, I personally do not like bass. Sunfish and bluegills are really good, but you need a bunch of them, because the filets are so small.

17. Yeah?
Might have to take up the hobby!

Love fish (to eat) but just don't see much in the stores around here. And most of that is farmed and shipped from Asia.

19. Most of the stuff in stores here are saltwater fish
But the freshwater fish are also tasty. You just don't see them for sale.

I guess they're just not as profitable to farm, and the lakes couldn't support commercial fishing.

12. I have 8 bass fillets in my freezer awaiting a fish fry
Mild and tasty (especially if you season the flour well).

I don't know that sunfish or bluegills are edible, if they are, my family must think that they're not worth the effort because they always throw them back.

13. They are, and they taste better than bass (IMO)
But you've got to get a bunch of them, because they're so small. Crappies are delicious, as well.

16. ah... that explains why they throw them back
I don't clean fish (yet... I don't know how and I don't have a decent knife) and my family is not likely to invest too much energy cleaning little fish. My sis did for me a couple of weeks ago, when it seems that every 10" perch in the lake ended up in our live well.... (and I caught them all!)
