Sick and fucking tired of people that can't take care of their animals

If you can't seem to take care of a pet, do us all a favor and find someone that can, you worthless pieces of shit!

On my nightly bike ride, I rode across two Great Danes walking the road. This isn't the first, or second time I have seen them out. I stopped and made friends with them since no one was helping them.

I was leading them back to my house for the evening in hopes of trying to find the owners tomorrow. They followed me most of the way until they both turned down a street, so of course I hoped they were going home.

Just as we turned on this street(I was behind them at this point) one of the Danes launched and attacked a cat that was in someones yard. By the time I get off the bike, the other Dane grabbed the other end of the cat and, you know. I kind of got frantic and both Danes hauled ass towards the woods :(

This is not a thread about certain breeds of dogs or me being naive enough to think this isn't the way nature works. But damn you fucking idiots who can't seem to keep animals secure. I see animals roaming this area all the fucking time and it's really tiresome.

The owner of those dogs should not be allowed to own dogs. That is totally irresponsible. x(

Unfortunately, in a lot of communities owning dogs becomes "the thing to do." In my new neighborhood, for example, it seems like everyone here has to own a dog. Some people seem to get dogs to fit in, or because they think dogs are cool, or because they think it's what families when kids reach a certain age, or whatever the reason.

But that doesn't mean that they know how to raise and train a dog. It doesn't mean they even care about the dog that much, or even think that dogs need any training or supervision.

My father was one of those idiots. He thought that dogs raised themselves and were supposed to develop good habits and obedience through some automatic natural process. He thought that dogs either were good dogs or they were bad, and he wasn't supposed to do anything to influence this. If the dog was "bad" he took the dog to the vet, put him to sleep and then later got another one.

Dogs deserve better owners than people like that. :(

2. When you ride your bike maybe you could

put a thin string with a little card attached in your pocket. On the card write, "Your pet was out running loose and almost got hit by a car, please take better care of it", or if you see the Great Danes often, write on the card, "These dogs attacked a cat. Please keep them secure in your yard", and tie it around their neck.
We had a gate that blew open occasionally in the strong north winds we get here sometimes, and I've seen quite a few dogs that get loose on those days. After frantically looking for our dog on a couple of windy days, we put hooks on the gate latches.

3. That is a great idea

Matter of fact, I was thinking about putting up some signs tomorrow with something very similar written.

The Danes were very nice to me. I doubt they would harm any children, thankfully.

I almost think the cat was hurt in the first place since it didn't fight, or try to run that I could tell. It was dark at the time, and happened very quickly.

4. Little update if anyone cares? :)

I found the owner of the cat. They told me the cat was 17 years old and partially blind and completely deaf. That certainly explains the fact it didn't react or try and get away. I feel she has just as much fault as the owners of the Great Danes? Who in the hell would let a deaf and blind cat lay outside like this? Not me!!


Anyway, I didn't say anything like that to her, she was already extremely upset. What I will do is call the Homeowners Assoc. tomorrow and find out who owns these dogs. I plan to take the Pres. of Homeowners with me as well as the owner of the deceased cat and demand these people stop letting these Danes out of their house to roam the area. Maybe explain this responsibility to them till it sticks.

7. Actually, I hope to talk some sense into these people

I would imagine getting the dogs taken away won't do anything to cure these idiots? Like one person up thread described, they will just go get two more and hope that scenario works out better.

I probably live in some fucking separate reality with hopes that situations actually work out correctly sometimes. I hope this starts something in this community where all these bastards start being more responsible.

Like I said, animals roam this area all the time. If it goes two weeks in between getting someones pet home, its a miracle :(

8. The elderly, blind, deaf cat probably wouldn't have left its yard.

Probably felt safe in its own territory, and why shouldn't it? Cats are territorial creatures of habit, like people. I don't think the owner is *as much* at fault. It's never good to let any animal run loose and she should have been supervising, but still - the dogs invaded HER yard. And the cat's yard. Geez, an elderly, blind deaf PERSON could be easily victimized by roaming thugs, but that's not right- the person still has a right to sit outside and feel the breeze and the sun if s/he wants to.

I still blame the dogs' owners (if the dogs have any - some scumbags just abandon animals to fend for themselves and won't claim them). Big dogs are just more dangerous than smaller critters, period.

9. I feel terrible.

I don't want the dogs taken away if possible. Hopefully the owners are receptive to our argument and make damn sure they are secured. That goes with every other lazy bastard that can't seem to outwit their animals.

Of course, you are correct and read the situation. The owners have been doing this for a couple years with the kitty. From what i understand, the neighbors were all aware of the elder kitty, and watched for her.

The whole situation around here has me pissed off, not just this one:(

None of it is - including the dogs being abandoned. It's obvious you care for all animals. It's a bad situation you're in, but you got there because you're a good person. :hug:
