Woman Says She Pulled Gun On Carjacker

Carjacker Burned Woman With Cigarettes, She Says

GAFFNEY, S.C. -- A 37-year-old woman told police that she was carjacked, burned with cigarettes and nearly sexually assaulted before she pulled a gun on her attacker.

The woman told Gaffney police that she stopped to get gas at the Corner Store on Monday. She said as she was pulling out of the parking lot, a man got in on the passenger side of her truck, put a knife to her side and told her to drive.

The woman said she drove to an area that appeared to be part of Kings Mountain State Park. Once they were there, she said that the carjacker burned her several times on the arm with a cigarette.

She said the carjacker made her drive to the Charlotte area, and somewhere near the airport, she stopped and he jumped on top of her and tried to assault her.

The woman said at that point, she was able to pull out a gun from under her seat and point it at the carjacker. She said that scared him, and he ran away.

When I heard that last night, I immediately thought it sounded hinky.

8. That's a pretty nasty accusation to make.

10. Rape victims react to such things, no matter if it's about them or not.

It's 'minor snark' to some, but to me it comes off as dismissive in an ugly way. Potayto Potahto though, I know.

11. Apologies
Unintended, and probably insensitive.

I'll see if I can get it removed.

12. That is kind of you.
I did say it was a Potayto/Potahto thing, and it kind of is... I'm probably being oversensitive.

Thanks though.

13. Wasn't worth insulting anyone over.
Too late to edit my orig. I alerted on it.

Was clumsy attempt at humor, w/o thinking through the consequences.

Thanks for pointing it out.

2. I can see if someone got the drop on her...
...she would not be able to pull a gun right away. If the assailant saw her going for it, he could take it from her and she would be in even worse shape. Of course as a nonwitness, I have no idea what actually happened.

6. Yep, that's how I see it too.
Unless you can succesfully get it into your hand and are at a point where you can aim it at the attacker, you're better off waiting.

7. What so unbelievable about that?
I didn't click on the link. My families from that area along the S.C./N.C. border. you could see Kings Mountain from my Grandad's farm, pretty country.

14. Read the next to last paragraph at the link.

Why didn't she report it right away?

15. Maybe after what she'd been through,
and having already gotten advice from an officer she found, she'd had enough. She got home at 1:30am and filed a report that day. I give her kudos for being able to drive her vehicle and find a cop. That's a pretty heavy duty experience she had there.

16. I can only speak for myself, but... FWIW...
It's a horrible, unbelievably humiliating experience. Unless you've been there, it's hard to understand the state of mind involved.
