1. Yep, I remember.

The "film" we saw in sixth grade about, *whispers* "mestruation" , used just this style too. That was the mid-70s and I'm guessing the film was from the late 60s.

:puke:

So glad for tampons.

LOL!

4. I hated those pads and the harness you had to use with a passion
And of course, proper young women were not supposed to use tampons because they would not be **gasp** virginal! At least when I first started my cycles. For my first time, we were on a trip and it was a Sunday - back in the day when nothing in the South was open on a Sunday. All my Mom and older sister had were tampons and I remember the whole discussion about whether they should show me how to use one or if it would be better to just use toilet paper folded into pads.

For the rest of the trip, I used tampons but the next period, Mom had pads for me. That lasted about one day before I revolted and said no more. Mom figured the "damage" was done and that was that.

My sister sent me this parody ad and I think it is hysterical!

2. Sheesh, even after having a baby
they give you little disposable stretchy net underpants so you don't have to contend with all those belts and pulleys to hold the humongous wads of padding in place!
I'm so glad I'm done with all that!

5. Unfortunately, yes!
Damn things were so uncomfortable- I remember the metal rubbing against my skin.

Started using Tampax very young- I think I deflowered myself that way- didn't understand that the cardboard applicator comes OUT!

I also remember the Bendix Diner on Rte 17 in NJ at the start of that video- I think it may still exist.

6. Oh yes, the bad old days.
I started menstruating in 1968. I remember those horrible elastic harnesses. The pads had gauze strings on the ends, so the lumpy part didn't come up that far in the front or back, but it was still awful.

I remember having to jump out of my seat in school to push the front of the pad down between my legs so it would be in the right place.

And the damn orchestra teacher didn't want us to go to the bathroom at lunch time. Our school was huge and we didn't have enough time to hit the bathroom, so I went after class started, to change my pad at noon, and walked in late. The asshole male teacher threatened to suspend me. He said "Can't you go to the bathroom some other time?" and I said no.

I threatened to get my mom to talk some sense into him. He had a wife and a daughter.

Maybe I should have thrown a bloody Kotex on his desk and told him that was the REAL reason I had to go to the john.

And we didn't have Motrin either!! There were NO drugs that helped cramps. Regular painkillers didn't work, and I was laid up for three or four days in bed every month. Really a hassle. I was NOT proud of "being a woman". It was messy, painful and inconvenient. :grr:

All this and garter belts and regular hose! It's a wonder we could manage to dress ourselves with all the hassle.

I didn't use tampons when I was a virgin. Didn't really know what to do and didn't want to stick anything up there. I didn't get the lecture about virgins not using them, just didn't want to mess with a very painful part of my body.

10. I remember how HUGE the boxes of pads were too.
There was no hiding them in the shopping cart.

And what an incredible difference in comfort the new ultra-thin pads are.
Even so, I'm glad I'll be done with the whole mess in a few short years. yeah!

11. Yes.
Thank goodness self-adhesive pads came along before 1979. :D

The pads were still huge, then, though. And it was before "panty liners" - we had Stayfree "mini pads" for those light days.
