What religion would this be?
I was curious on this, but the house a few over from ours was just sold and I was talking to the realtor yesterday, and she said they planned to move in on June 19. But, she then said that if June 19 fell through due to the bank or something else, they wouldn't be able to move in until the end of July for religious reasons. What religion would have a 4-6 week religious period in mid Summer that prevents moving? (They're relocating from Indiana (I think) to Connecticut)

I know Islam has Ramadan that lasts about a month, but that's usually later in the year and I thought it involved fasting, but did not restrict regular activities? I don't recall any Christian or Jewish holidays that last over a month, either?

I'm an atheist, so I'm not all that knowledgeable on world religions.

3. I can tell you that Hinduism is REALLY diverse.
Unlike Islam or Christianity. There is a joke: "Hinduism is what a Hindu does" because its got so many definitions. So that's my guess, its coming from that branch of the tree.

Could be something as simple as
a Jehovah's Witness going to their District Convention; it's about the right time for it. They like to have people take note of how far out of their way they will go to make sure they are able to attend (ie: quit their job, postpone a house closing, etc). That wouldn't normally take 4-6 weeks, but if the man had some position in convention organizing, it could.

4. Maybe it's a "personal" religious thing, and not a generic holiday.
I can't find a holiday that fits on the old interfaith calendar...

6. Personal as in . . .
They have a long vacation planned and is using the religious thing for an excuse.

7. Well, that could be...but I was thinking about a religion where
someone has to do a personal retreat, or a fast, or something like that as part of the faith.

But yeah, someone who worships at the altar of the Vacation Airline Tickets might be anxious to express their faith in a meaningful way!

10. No, not pagan...
Our Summer Solstice celebration only takes place on the day of the solstice (although we might prepare for the festivities up to a week in advance).

17. Is it possible
that June 19 was one of these lucky days, but if they miss that date, then the next lucky day is not until late July? (I have no idea if this family is Indian/Hindu or not.)

I know in China, people try to plan things like weddings and childbirth around certain dates on the calendar - so, if June 19 was not a good date to do something important, the next big date would be (for example) July 24. I didn't think of that when I made the original post, but I remember when we were originally deciding on a date to get married, my wife had to consult some sort of Chinese calendar to make sure the date was okay for us to get married.

11. June and July are surprisingly lean on religious holidays
Eastern Orthodox Pentecost - 7 Jun

Pagan/Wicca Summer Solstice - 21 Jun

Islam Isra and Me'raj - 19 Jul

None of them last a month or more.

My crap detector just blinked. I think somebody's telling a wee fib.

14. Religious Day
A variety of religions in the Hindu family (Buddhism etc) follow the stars. They only do things based on days that are auspicious for that activity. Since this depends on a variety of planets, there is no consistent day as with calenders and Holidays based on Solar or Lunar Calenders. Remember, this information is coming through another party that may have incomplete understanding of what was said. Imagine lining up people of many faiths and then play theological telephone. The end message will come out very different no matter how honest they try to be.

16. welcome to DU
and, it could be something like that - June 19 is some sort of preferred day for this religion, but then it won't occur again until 4-5-6 weeks later.

20. Coming from Indiana? Probably some fucking nutjob form of Christianity
that actually has about as much to do with Christianity as my scrotum does with the second season of Friends.

21. There are religious nutjobs all over
but, they must be open minded enough to move to a state allowing gay marriage from Indiana...

However, I'm thinking it may be similar to a lucky day like Lioness had posted above and I responded in post #17.
