Cheap Trick releasing new album in CD, LP, and 8 Track Tape versions
DETROIT (Billboard) – Cheap Trick is stepping outside of the label world to release its next studio album, "The Latest," itself.

The veteran rock group will start taking pre-orders for the 13-track set, which it recorded during the past year mostly in Los Angeles with producer Julian Raymond, on Friday via its official web site, http://www.cheaptrick.com , and at Amazon.com.

Those who pre-order will receive "The Latest" on June 23, the day Cheap Trick starts it summer tour with Def Leppard and Poison in Camden, N.J.

Amazon will have exclusive rights for one month, and the album will also be available in limited LP and 8-track editions.

2. They were pioneers of the short-lived "Nu Disc"...
...a 10-inch EP format which went nowhere fast.

Found All the Parts

First time on CD for this EP that was originally released on 10 inch in 1980 through CBS. Features 4 digitally remastered tracks, 'Day Tripper' (Live 1979 USA), 'Can't Hold On' (Live 1978 Tokyo), 'Such A Good Girl' (Studio 1976) & 'Take Me I'm Yours' (Studio 1977). Sony Japan. 2003.

3. I read a great and informative interview with Bun E. Carlos a few weeks back.
He talked about bypassing any major labels as much as possible (some of their stuff is still technically owned by a major label). He talked about how their biggest days may be past them as far as sales go, but he just wanted to make enough to keep touring and playing. That's one of the reasons you see so many various greatest hits collections and stuff. They're letting the majors put it out because they're using the money from the sales of that old stuff to make new stuff, while hoping that eventually the sales of the newer stuff can support their tours and recording.

He talks a lot about the goings on behind the scenes with Epic Records and other labels, and needless to say he has a very low opinion of them (as should we all).

Good to hear about this. I've been a big fan since the first album, and Rockford was excellent (as was the '97 release on Red Ant Records). I'll be snagging this up pronto.

4. Similar to The Smithereens...
...they did the two Beatles CDs, a live album, and the new "Tommy" cover album...all of which keeps the band alive. I've always considered the two bands to be similar, built on solid, well-crafted, guitar-driven hard pop/rock American music.

7. Great. How the fuck can I play that in my wire recorder?
:grr:

Cheap Trick is an institution. They're at the point where they exist outside of record labels, and because of their popularity and notoriety, they no longer need them.

Good for them. :toast:

8. What, no wax? I'm sorry to hear that they're reduced to touring with Def Leppard and Poison.
Cheap Trick are better than that.

How embarrassing.

I mean, my God, reduced to touring with Def Leppard is enough reason for suicide; but to also be reduced to sharing the bill with Poison?

:wtf:

Cheap Trick actually play music and know how to play their instruments and write killer good songs.

How sad.

9. "Talk Dirty To Me" shamelessly rips off "She's Tight" after all...
