Grand Jury Testimony... should it be treated like Jury Duty by the employer?
I have been subpoenaed to appear as a witness for the prosecution in the case against the burglars who broke into my home the week before Christmas.

I believe that since I have been ordered by the state to appear (and failure to appear may result in a warrant issued for my arrest...) that I should not have to use my personal time from work - that it should be treated like jury duty. My employer has indicated that because it is a burglary at my home, personal time it is.

Any thoughts?

1. That sounds like bullshit to me.
A subpoena is something you can't ignore! I would think it would be some sort of jury duty type leave. Sounds like your employer is being a cheap ass.

2. I believe I am legally correct on this matter
I just hate to have to go to HR and inform them. I know they think I am a troublemaker at work.

3. You know I hate that. HR is supposed to be YOUR advocate
And most of the time its the other way around. Of course this does remind me of a friend who was working in DC for FDIC after Sept 11th...near the White House...They could NOT get in to their offices of course as that part of the city was shut down, but they were made to take their own leave for it! :wtf:
