People: Adam Lambert lead singer for Queen? It could happen
I am a big fan of Queen and Freddie Mercury, and I would LOVE to see this happen!! I could tell by how Brian May responded to Adam on AI that this could be possible.

Is "American Idol" runner-up Adam Lambert poised to become the next lead singer for Queen?

The guitarist for the legendary rock band says he wouldn't mind giving it a shot.

After Lambert's performance with Queen on the "Idol" finale last week, guitarist Brian May told Rolling Stone magazine that he'd like to explore the possibility of a prolonged collaboration between Queen, which came to fame with famously flamboyant singer Freddie Mercury, and the famously flamboyant Lambert.

"(Drummer Roger Taylor) and I are definitely hoping to have a meaningful conversation with him at some point," said May. "It's not like we, as Queen, would rush into coalescing with another singer just like that. It isn't that easy. But I'd certainly like to work with Adam. That is one amazing instrument he has there."

There are obvious, almost eerie, parallels between Lambert and the late Mercury, a flashy performer with a powerful voice who was gay but went to pains to keep his private life private. Mercury died in 1991 from HIV-induced pneumonia.

Lambert has not responded to May's comments.

4. I agree
I have trouble imagining him doing justice to a song like "My Melancholy Blues" or "Tie Your Mother Down."

That said, it could work - his best bet would be to just try to be himself.

22. As a total Queen freak.....yes, he does. And he has the genuine theatric streak Mercury had...
Edited on Wed May-27-09 04:37 PM by blm
and I believe he would show reverence to the original while bringing an additional flavor to the mix.

Anyone who knows Brian May could read his face when he played with Adam.....he wouldn't have even been on that show but for the fact he recognized Adam had IT.

24. That's true. Adam's is further reaching than Freddie.
I love Freddie but Adam is freakish in his vocal range.

Adam Lambert is the only person who could even hold a candle to Freddie Mercury.

9. Probably a better fit than Paul Rodgers
But really, they should quit milking the name "Queen" already.

Freddie Mercury WAS Queen. Yeah, the other three guys are great musicians, and they all wrote the songs, but so much of the band's identity, their presence on stage, and on record, was Freddie Mercury.

At least John Deacon gets it. He hasn't wanted any part of these half-assed "reunion" tours.

17. Meh.
I'm lukewarm on both Queen and Adam Lambert, but I just think once the lead singer of a band dies, they should close up shop. It just seems sacrilegious to me.

18. Thats fine. Just don't call them Queen anymore
Cause whatever they say, without Freddie, they are NOT Queen and will NEVER be Queen.
He's good but NOBODY can replace Freddie.

and why would a talented guy like Adam Lambert want to be a poor man's Freddie Mercury?

I can't wait to his plans for a wide ranging, fusion type album.

He says he wants to do electro-pop-rock with a futuristic side to it - I bet it would be unique.

29. He is comparable to Freddie in some aspects.
I thought he should have sang Queen on the show before the finale. But, I don't think that is for him. Queen is only Queen with Freddie, IMO. I think he could do those type of songs though. He is very theatrical as was Freddie. That suits him perfectly. But Queen just can't be Queen with Freddie gone. I am not taking away from the other members of the band, but Adam is young and can do his own thing.
