2. I was being ironic (so to speak)...
...I dislike Lex for more reasons than that. But they voted off Colby. These people are vicious...the show's getting a little more compelling...
When the day is done I'm still a Rupert guy.
Thanks for the link. Wikipedia is neat.

3. I kind of like Rupert, but he's really playing the game poorly . . .
this time around . . . designing a house built over a hole dug in the beach? . . . didn't it occur to him what would happen when it rained? . . . and then making a catamaran raft that was slower than Bush's brain? . . . he's a character, but I think he's going down in the next couple of weeks . . .

6. because
he is playing one hell of a game.

Lex is playing a great game. Booting Colby now may be one of the best moves ever. It had to be done, really, and why not now?

Remember, Colby is the only person in the history of the game to win more challenges than Lex post-merge.

As for Rupert, he's playing no better or worse than he did last time. He's a great personality, horrible player, just like last time. That's why Rob made an alliance with him and Jenna. He's done what Hatch did in the first game. Ally yourself with the three worst players in the game, because you KNOW you'll be able to outplay them at the end.

He's now up on Mogo Mogo 6-5. If he can keep that lead going into the merge (and it looks like Kathy might switch if it's 5-5), he's locked. He's got a dyad of 2 with himself and Amber, with Alicia and Tom each thinking they're the third person in that group; and he's got an alliance with the pair of Rupert and Jenna. Once he takes care of Mogo Mogo, he uses Rupert/Jenna and Tom to take out Alicia, the challenge threat.

Then he uses Tom to take out Rupert, then Jenna. Then he can take out Tom at F3, and he takes Amber to F2. His speech at F2 consists of, "Hey, that's just Amber. I've carried her since Day One. You're gonna give her a million dollars? Please!"

He wins in a landslide vote. I'd vote for him, even if he had tossed me out at F3. Brilliant play.

I'm going to be very surprised, at this point, to see someone from Mogo Mogo win. They had a good shot before they booted Richard.

7. You got this wired, dude...
...I just watch and like or dislike people. I guess I'm simple-minded. SURVIVOR is the only 'reality' show I watch. I like that it has the human/nature conflict rather than it just being a buncha a-holes living together in an apartment or that Trump show.
I appreciate that you've really thought about it. For what that's worth.

8. heh
Some might say I think a little too much about it. I moderate a little discussion board about the show, and have only missed one episode of all 8 seasons. Most I've seen more than once (I've seen the first season three times).

I agree that it has the perfect balance of human/nature conflict, as well as being a game. It's the absolute best of the reality show genre.

And one reason is that it can be enjoyed on so many levels. You get a lot of pleasure out of just watching it and enjoying the people. I get seriously into the game play. That's why my two favourite players ever were Richard and Brian, winners of Seasons 1 and 5, as they were the best players from a strategic viewpoint. That's also why I'm not as big a Rupert fan as others are. He's a great guy, just not a great player.

:hi:

And you're not simple minded at all. You're just finding your pleasure in the show where you're finding it. We all like what we like. Within about 8 hours, there will be people on this thread telling us how this show is neofascist, neocon, Republican, and a threat to our way of life and All That Is Good and Decent. So just enjoy it. :D

9. Nice post. Thanks...
...my older sister thinks about the show a little bit more like you do than I. We call and talk about it every week. I guess I'm more into heroes and villains than some.
If properly stimulated I can get into the game aspect of the show. It doesn't stick with me though. I'm always gonna like Rupert 'cause he's a Jerry Garcia kinda guy.
I dig your openness and tolerance. It is a multi-leveled show.
I'll always dig that Rupert said that 'here we are in Paradise, and some of these people are bitching'. It cracked me up.

10. Rupert is one of my favourite people ever
When he stole those shoes, I instantly knew that would be one of the best seasons ever on Survivor, and he made it that way. I just wish he hadn't been so trusting, and a bit more conniving.

Me and my sis are the same way, we call each other constantly. She's a Rupert fan. I drive her crazy because I'm into players like Rich and Mariano and Jonny Fairplay and Cesternino.

12. My favorite movie is Peckinpah's THE WILD BUNCH...
...somehow or other I see Rupert as one of them. Johnny Fairplay is like L.Q. Jones! Ha! No offense intended. It IS just a TV show. SURVIVOR is something my sis and I can talk about without talking about GWB. TV brings families together.

11. The Iron Corss is NOT a nazi symbol.
It´s a symbol the imperial german army has been using since the 1870s. The german army STILL uses it as a matter of fact.

13. Vote off lucidmadman!
Just kidding! :)

But I really think that Lex is a great player. He's playing very strategically, instead of relying on their past show caricature.

Lex is too threatening to win, but I hope that he does. Lex, Shii Ann, Jerri and Ethan should hook up with Alicia to get rid of the rest.

14. I don't like it at this point as much as I thought I would have.
Two of my favorites, Tina and Rudy, were voted off right at the start. I watch every week though. I guess it's the interplay and the human dynamic that fascinates me. I wouldn't like to try it for six weeks though.

15. You know it's funny...
I like more of the players on Mogo Mogo (Ethan, Shi Ann, Kathy & Colby), but I'm always cheering for Chapera because Rupert is on that team.

That was a hell of a win last night for Chapera!

16. Brilliant play by Lex last night!!
The merge will be interesting.

Taking Kathy on the reward trip was another interesting move. I'm curious to see how that plays out back at her tribe.

17. Here's something truly evil
Let's say they do that "choose a survivor" thing again next week. And Chapera wins again.

Wouldn't you take Kathy again?

I mean, really. There is no way, ever, that Kathy could regain the trust of Mogo Mogo at that point. Not a thing she could say. She'd have to switch to Chapera.

That'd be brutally evil.
