because pitch and inflection are such an integral part of their language. Very cool. Thanks for he tip!

46. I'm doing research in speech recognition
I am fascinated by Oriental, pitch based languages.

Did you know that traditional speech recognition algorithms throw away pitch as irrelevant?

What a bunch of Morans!

33. I have had my house on fire. burned to the ground. lost everything.
I can tell you I was not thinking about any of the stuff in my fridge. As a matter of fact, I was worried about our dog and cats and everything else didn't seem to matter. I did wander around the walmart parking lot trying to find my car after feeling the need to make sure my daughter had clothes and a toothbrush. i am not sure if i was in shock.

35. I've been caught in a refinery explosion
I had to push a military cordon out of the way with my truck, to get through to my mother's house and make sure everybody got out.

It's a miracle they didn't shoot me.

This thread is supposed to inject levity, after all the "choose human or pet" threads...

34. True story
In 1999, I saw a man run into a burning apartment complex, only to come out with an arm-full of underwear.

I thought he was mad.

Until last Aug. when my very own apartment burned down. I was not there to save anything but the next morning when I came to the realization that I only had one pair of underwear... and it was dirty... I realized that man was not in fact mad.
