Blue Hole in Santa Rosa, New Mexico--has anyone been there?
My parents were planning on driving cross country--Florida to the Grand Canyon, and I heard about the Blue Hole in New Mexico and it seemed like a place they might like. Has anyone on this board ever been there? How is it? The water seems cold but doable in short doses (64 degrees). Can anyone say how the NM Blue Hole compares to some of the Florida natural springs?

2. Been to it, but didn't go in ; not enough time on the way to Fort Sumner
I'll ask around though, and you might want to try the NM forum, if you already haven't. DUer cybergata is an expert on NM history and I'll see her on Thursday; wouldn't be surprised if she knows this...BTW, if its the first time at the Grand Canyon for your parents, they're in for an amazing experience; its one of those natural wonders that's every bit as incredible as advertised. I'm assuming they'll be on I-40....Lots of cool stuff ; from the Cadillac Ranch outside Amarillo, to some absolutely spectacular red rock ( and other ) formations in western NM, especially around Grants and again around the Arizona border.

3. they should take a trip on the Cumbres and Toltec Railroad in Southern Colorado/
northern New Mexico. A wonderful trip! http://www.cumbrestoltec.com/

Now if they are taking a south route, out in west Texas where I 10 and I 20 merge is Balmorhea State Park.

anyway they will spend a lot of time in Texas if they follow I-10 and I 20 on either leg of the trip. I suggest this: http://www.traveltex.com/Index.aspx and order the free Texas Travel Guide.

but today someone said a ten foot shark had been caught in the Blue Hole, about 2 hours southeast of where i live...apparently there are seams to the ocean..it's worth a stop on that rumor alone...also visit Fort Sumner where Billy the Kid is buried and the Navajo and Apache were imprisoned
