Cute story about a hummingbird I met in San Diego

I was working at the San Diego Union Tribune building and the computer room was something like 55 degrees so it was necessary to take frequent breaks. It was on the third floor and there was a fire escape balcony just down the hall. On one of my first trips out there, I took my coffee and rested my elbows on the rail. A hummingbird suddenly appeared in front of me - RIGHT in front of me - and hovered near my cup. After a while, it flitted off.

I mentioned it to the guys who work there and they said it does that all the time, but it drinks out of their coffee cups. I don't put sugar in my coffee but they do. My coffee was obviously sub-standard. Now think about it. You have a bird that is on the verge of a heart attack just from its own drug-free life style and you give it a sugar drink with caffeine? AAARGGHH! Some comedian said (a long time ago) that he liked to give hummingbirds cocaine just to watch them transform into little balls of energy. The poor bird! He's a coffee addict! That was over 10 years ago, but he's probably still alive and has moved on to crack or meth or something.
