Most overrated rock and roll SONG/HIT
I'm gonna nominate Meatloaf's "I would do anything for love..but I won't do that"...I mean thats just stupid..:wtf:
Starships "We built this city on Rock n Roll" comes in a close second for just awfulness.....

2. "I'm a Little Bit Country. And I'm a Little Bit Rock-n-Roll"
Face it, anything by Donny and/or Marie is over-rated if it so much as REGISTERS a rating.

34. The Osmonds doing rock n roll is hilarious.
I think I saw Donnie singing 'Playing in a Traveling Band' on the Love Boat once. What do they say in the South? Bless his lil ol' heart!

35. I received a great gag gift when I was in high school (late 70's).
Someone gave me a Donny Osmond album - the cover was him in a white suit with white baby grand piano and both were on railroad tracks. I found the irony rather sweet - COME ON TRAIN! I never opened it, and unlike most unopened albums, it is worth less on eBay now than it cost when my friends bought it from the cut-out bin at some record store.

3. First comes to mind is "Stairway to Heaven"
But that's not fair: it was just too overplayed and worshipped when I was young. Haven't heard it in years, and never want to again.

Even Led Zep don't love it as much as their real masterpiece: "Kashmir".

30. "Reaper" is a Donald 'Buck Dharma' Roeser song
Edited on Mon May-11-09 08:49 AM by southpaw
Written and sung by Roeser, whereas most of their catalogue was primarily penned by and almost always sung by Eric Bloom.

Listen to BOC's 'Burnin' for You' which is also written and sung by Roeser. Much more in the 'Reaper' vein than, say, 'Godzilla' or 'Astronomy'

59. At times they do...
Buck sings in a smoother style in general and he tends to write harmony lines. Bloom is more the traditional classic-rock vocalist, but they sing in the same general vocal range.

I like Buck. Bloom's good at his thing, but, to me, Buck Dharma is BOC.

39. Oh come on!
It is an existential masterpiece. You have to look beyond the plain meaning of the lyrics and see them as a metaphor for life in general. It is about the distractions of life and how they divert us from our goals.

42. A little musical blasphemy here:
"We built this city" is actually well written and well crafted.

There are LOTS of hits that are much worse and far less melodic than that.

You want annoying? Either just bad songs or played to death???
Freebird, Freefallin', Muskrat Love.

Played to death: Dark Side of the Moon, Tapestry by Carole King, Morning has Broken (the Unitarian National Anthem ruined by Cat Stevens).

There are a whole lot more.
