Man injured after shooting box of dynamite
CORRINE -- A Box Elder County farmer was injured this morning when he exploded dynamite with a shotgun.

Police said the unidentified farmer found a box of dynamite in a shed on a private ranch south of the ATK Thiokol plant on Promontory. Concerned for the safety of children on the ranch, the man put the box in a field and blew it up with a shotgun blast from about 40 yards away.

He was hit in the head with shrapnel from the blast and suffered head injuries, but an emergency dispatcher said she did not know how extensive the injuries are. The man was taken to an Ogden hospital by a LifeFlight helicopter.

More information on the incident will be posted on standard.net as it becomes available.

1. Honorable mention for a Darwin
he's not eligible for the real thing if he survives.

3. It's pretty bad when you cannot tell if they got brain damage or not.
"He was hit in the head with shrapnel from the blast and suffered head injuries, but an emergency dispatcher said she did not know how extensive the injuries are."

There should be telltale signs of before and after intelligence, but in this case, I can see why they would have a hard time telling the difference. What idiot thinks it's a good idea to shoot dynamite? :wow:

6. What's weird is that it sounds like he was trying to something sensible
I mean, he was trying to protect kids on the site, I can hardly fault him for his motives.

The execution, on the other hand, might have been better planned. But I'm sure that he thought 40 yards was far enough away...

11. Everybody knows that the proper method to dispose of dynamite
is to burn it.

Wow. And not just some pissy handgun, either - he used a fucking shotgun. It's like he was trying to blow himself up.
