How come some women act so insulted when you tell them they snore?

They act as if you'd said they farted in church.

And a lot of women snore. BTW, I'm a woman too. I know this from experience with sisters, roommates at college, on trips, at workshops, etc.

2. I'm not really, I just wanted to bring it to people's attention.

Mainly because I've known women--especially one bitchy family member--who don't mind telling me I snore but act highly insulted when told that she does it.

"women are taught to be ashamed of most normal bodily functions"

Totally agree with you about that.

3. I've met men who do the same thing.
Get all mad when you claim they snore..Not entirely convinced this is a gender thing more than its a nobody wants to admit they are undignified enough to snore thing....

5. It's true...
It's a little scary to think that we aren't aware of what we do in our sleep. I'm thinking that snoring is better than talking.

4. Because we're supposed to lie there silently
on our backs, hands folded in prayer, hair artfully arranged, like Sleeping Beauty. And making nary a sound. Those fair tale tropes run deep...

BTW, I snore. And my hair looks like a fright wig first thing in the morning.

8. I don't know, but it certainly seems true
My wife can wake the dead and change the atomic structure of lead she snores so loud. She denied for years that she snored at all, then she insisted it couldn't possibly be as bad as I was describing. I reminded her that she lived in a house that was part recording studio and offered to set up a couple of high quality microphones to capture the event.

she got really pissed and threatened to insert a microphone into my posterior oriice when I made the suggestion!

17. Seriously......
If she snores that loud, she should get a sleep test. Have her check with her doctor. I'm very serious, please ask her to do so.

9. Before you ask, it's also not a good idea to mention to a woman
that she farts in her sleep. Even if it's true...

10. They're not supposed to.

While it's ok, even honorable, for a man to snore like a drunk Viking, this is very unfortunate behavior in a woman. They are to be perfect in their femininity and flawless in their beauty. :eyes:

Today there is no reason for a woman to snore like a beast. We now have surgical procedures available that can correct this unsavory disfunction.

13. I was shocked to learn.. and I'm a dude
I recently was told that I snore and seem to never fully sleep.

I was always told I snore when I drink lots. Well, I drink lots often :D

Two week ago someone was describing sleep apnea to me and saying how you just stop breathing and can die.

That scared the hell outta me and I ain't skeered of nuttin.

I'm back on my meds though. :P

:hi:

16. Cause it's kind of rude to tell anyone they snore.
What are they supposed to do about it? And all you've done is make them more self-conscious about it.

Why do men get so upset when you point out they have a bald spot?

It's just inconsiderate.

18. Because snoring can be an indicator of sleep apnea,
a serious health condition, it is not necessarily rude to mention it in private. Just don't make the announcement in a room full of people. A little sensitivity can go a long way.

20. Nothing rude about it if you're in the same bed, room, house or
county with someone who is doing an excellent imitation of a steam engine winding down. Just changing sleeping position can do the trick.

22. To be honest, when my wife told me I snored, I was really shocked, upset and defensive.

So it's probably just a natural universal, possibly common to both men and women, emotion. Also, it is scary because we know it is associated with sleep apnea, which is associated with diabetes, high blood pressure and dementia. So it is a cause for concern.
