but amazingly enough,I still remember a few of the songs we played (it was May 1973; our dorm at the University of New Mexico , and very, very stoned on hash--I do remember that)---how in the hell do you still remember all the songs you did? Anyway, I know we did Mama Tried, Sweet Virginia, I think Take it Easy, jeez, that's all I remember. I still am friends with one of the 2 other people ( just saw him last month when I went to Denver to see Bruce Springsteen); I'll email him and see if somehow he remembers any of it, and I'll add on to this. The other vaguely interesting thing about it was that the third person was the cousin or niece of Henson Cargill ( Skip a Rope---top 10 in 1968). I have no idea whatever happened to Cecelia........ a few minutes later: Just heard from my old buddy---says the Eagles song ( by way of Gene Clark) was Train Leaves Here This Morning, and we also did Bye Bye Love and Ripple. That's all he remembers...BTW, he used our one and only gig together as a springboard to even greater artistic triumphs: he's the author of the immortal words "tough actin' tinactin" . No shit.

3. I can only come up with our last set list.
I performed with another teacher and the school chaplain as Padre and the Agnostics. Our final performance, in 1989, went something like this:

"Baby, Please Don't Go"
"Wild Thing"/"Love Stinks"/"Louie, Louie" (notice a pattern?)
"Don't Worry, Be Happy" (turned into thrash and sung as "worry--be scared")
"Free Bird" (complete with trombone solo by the Padre)

4. $25 was pretty good money back in 1966
My first club gig was at a club in Minneapolis called the 7th Street Entry. 7th Street is part of the First Avenue club, which was the setting for the film "Purple Rain". This gig paid $20 for a Tuesday night slot on "New Band Night". I might add too that this was in 1988, and $20 was about enough for gas money and Taco Bell for the four of us after the show.

We got 40 minutes to play, and ten to load out and get out of the club (we were under 21 and could only play there-- not hang out). Our set list was six originals, which I now forget, but were your typical pre-grunge alterna-goth type music. Here's a picture from the gig (I'm the guy on the far left, playing the red sunburst guitar).

I still play in a band with the drummer, 21 years later, believe it or not.

5. What I remember...
Edited on Thu May-07-09 04:59 AM by MilesColtrane
Bridge of Sighs -Robin Trower
Hey Joe -Hendrix
Sky Church Hymn #9 -David Sancious
Dragonfly -Frank Marino and Mahogany Rush
Scatterbrain -Jeff Beck
Stormy Monday
Manic Depression -Hendrix
Freeway Jam -Jeff Beck
Whipping Post -Allman Brothers

And some originals...

1979? at a place called the Mad Dog Saloon, the regulars were more interested in hearing some George Jones and Willie, and they did NOT appreciate what we were throwing down.

I don't remember getting paid, but they did give us free beer. (we were all under age)

6. Not my first band, but one I enjoyed most - "The Gallos" (like the cheap wine)
we had a singer/electric pianist, drummer, great guitarist, and a singer/bassist (me). We played stuff similar to your set, more Kinks stuff, and a shorter set - we had the pleasure of being the backup band for various recording artists such as Jewel Aikins (Let Me Tell You 'Bout the Birds and the Bees...") who didn't know what key his own record was in (We did it in "C"). We got screwed by the promoter - we did 2 such concerts at the local fairgrounds, never got paid a dime. This was in 1964 or 65. I played an original Danelectro Longhorn bass through a Sears amp later sold to Rick Vito of Fleetwood Mac. The drummer and I are the only members of that band still living.

Seemed like we were going somewhere for a few weeks there, but....
