This Friday, I'll be getting on a plane for the first time in more than ten years, and I've had to take a crash course in flying in this day and age.
First, I hit the online plane ticket sites. The catch, apparently, is that you can get the fantastic discounts you see on TV if you pay for them BEFORE they tell you your departing and arriving flight times. Hotwire informed me that I could save nearly half the plane fare if I landed at a nearby airport from which I could catch a Greyhound bus. I decided that was a worthwhile compromise, but when I tried to book the flight, the price mysteriously increased. I transferred the relevant information to Expedia, and I had my ticket.
I've bought my requisite three ounce plastic bottles for my cosmetics and chosen a pair of shoes that I can slip off. I dusted off my old garment bag, which I either stuck in an overhead rack or hung in a coat closet. Can you still do this, or do I have to check it now?
