Miss California says racy web photos posted to mock her faith
http://www.google.com/hostednews/canadianpress/article/ALeqM5gTbGEv8c2tLg9KoSjSKXfHoh51Mg

SAN DIEGO — Miss California says a website has posted racy photos of her in an attempt to belittle her Christianity.

Carrie Prejean says photos taken of her as a teenager had been released "surreptitiously to a tabloid website that openly mocks me for my Christian faith."

In a statement, Prejean also says the attacks on her and others who "speak in defence of traditional marriage" are intolerant and offensive.

A photo of Prejean wearing only pink panties with her back turned to the camera appeared Monday on a gossip blog.

The 21-year-old Prejean was named first runner-up to Miss North Carolina in the Miss USA pageant April 19. Her response to a question about legalizing same-sex marriage may have cost her the title.

It's her bigotry and intolerance that deserve mocking.

Of course, if she weren't a fundeigelical, she wouldn't likely be an intolerant bigot.

41. And what about those whose faith does not embrace violence?
It's not the religion...It's the people who use religion as an excuse to do evil things. Usually their faith does not justify such acts; but people are able to claim that it does via a perverse and twisted interpretation of their scriptures.

42. Factoring in the unconscious tribal-agression instinct...
in the non-violent faithful of which you speak causes one to wonder how it is you became aware of these very special people.
-------------------------

Excerpt from Edward Wilson's, "On Human Nature", in which Wilson described the case of the genocide of the tasmanian Aboriginals.

The British settlers nearly completed a violent genocide on them (they hunted them like game), which caused some outcry. Then a well-intentioned Calvinist minister showed up to lead the remnant to a reservation and to teach them about Calvinism. but this abrupt revolution in their philosophies and way of life was more than they could handle spiritually, and they simply stopped reproducing and died out within one generation.
Wilson maintains that the Calvinist minister, despite the best of
CONSCIOUS intentions, UNCONSCIOUSLY was "acting under the compulsion" of another instinct-the tribal-agression instinct-and was REALLY there to finish the genocide his own kind had begun, only by politically acceptable (and therefore most effective) means.

43. I've not witnessed "unconscious tribal aggression instincts" in Quakers
but their outspoken stance against nonviolence certainly freaked out our last rethuglican governor's regime.

As much as I disliked him, however, I doubt he would have resorted to wiping them out.

Without compiling a list that would be misleadingly incomplete, there are other sects of various religions who embrace non-violence.

There are also faithful individuals who are members of seemingly aggressive sects who reject their own faith's stance yet remain devout in the hope that their group may evolve beyond such thinking.

Mankind can be as decent and caring as it can be cruel and unjust. Neither religion nor the lack of it will change that.

60. "Famous" Quakers

In 1681, Penn obtained from Charles II, a grant of all the land embraced in the present State of Penn-sylvania. His purpose in this was to convert and civilize the Indians, as expressed in the charter, but also to form an asylum for those desirous of civil and religious liberty, in which the principles of Peace, as advocated by his sect, might be efficiently carried out. He soon after obtained a grant of the present State of Delaware, then called "The Territories". In September, 1682, he set sail for his new province, with a large number of emigrants of his own religious belief.

62. So what?
Richard Nixon was not a devout Quaker, and did not use the religion as an excuse to justify the actions of his administration.

Herbert Hoover was a better man than many people here seem to realize, though his economic policies were disastrous.

Certainly there are people of every belief and non-belief who would like to convert others to their way of thinking. Your own initial comment indicates a desire to eradicate faith of all kinds, thus converting people to your belief. I don't view this "evangelization" as being the same sort of evil that led to the annihilation of so many non-Christians and non-Muslims.

At its best, evangelization can be informative and thought provoking...as I suggest your post is. Oftentimes it can be viewed as obnoxious, particularly when someone decides to interrupt my daily chores with promises of hell if I don't convert. On the other hand, when missionaries require that recipients of their aid must listen to sermons if they want to be helped, I'd characterize such behavior as tribal-aggression.

Was he self-contradictory at times? Who isn't?

I see no difference between that and the people who believe the only hope lies in humanity embracing some god or other.

55. Bigotry: religion::life: oxygen
The most basic life forms do not use oxygen, so strictly speaking it is not a precondition for life. Nevertheless, the the adaptation of life to O2 has really caused evolution to kick into overdrive. Bigotry does not need religion, but its divine justification and even requirement of that bigotry is like evolution on oxygen. Besides, any belief system based on the irrational or impossible will necessarily yield result incompatible with reality. What would we expect? They are not based on reality.

and if she were, she was one of the most mature-looking 16 year olds I've ever seen. I think she's just saying she was 16 as a means of keeping people from posting the pics. There are plenty of websites that won't post the photo if there's even a hint that she was 16 when they were taken.

Once again, others are required to pay the price of her faith. Because she has a problem with gay marriage, others who do not share her views are not allowed a basic human right. Sacrifice for ones own faith is supposed to be a virtue. What do you call throwing someone else under the bus for ones faith?

59. So what I haven't heard people talking about is "Vanity"
She is a hypocrite, she wanted a bully pulpit and not have any repercussions. She like all Republicans should not get a free pass for spouting off talking points. I don't feel sorry for her she is banking on her looks to get her what she wants.

Here's a couple of passages

Man is like to.

Psalms 144:4 Man is like to vanity: his days are as a shadow that passeth away.

Ecclesiastes 2:21 For there is a man whose labour is in wisdom, and in knowledge, and in equity; yet to a man that hath not laboured therein shall he leave it for his portion. This also is vanity and a great evil.
