Who likes Coltrane? Maybe it's vanity, but...
maybe I'm half drunk on a Wed. night but...I took the rest of the week off to be with my fiance, and I hoped someone would comment on my new avatar.

Ok I'm pretty much fully drunk. But it's to blow off steam from a full day of posting and dealing with another bleak day under this regime.

Somebody back me up with some love for Trane!

12. I must say - I've seen you around and I've always been fascinated by...
the "Green Faery". Absynthe is a special thing to spark the creativity and mind. Just thought I'd say that since I'm a "I love you man" kind of drinker. And I'm in a "I love this place" mood.

Thanks for the back up!

29. Try Absynthe some time!
It's effect is similar to a mild rasta buzz, but not as disorienting.

But dont buy it here in the US - the active ingredient, thujone, is not present. Instead buy some online or from Canada should you live near the border.

31. As I understand it Wormwood is the cheif ingredient and Spain is the ...
last place that makes it to original specs. is this true?

33. Actually they make it all over the EU
Wormwood becomes Thujone in the distillation process.

And yes, Spain has some really tasty Absynthe - but you can get it from Germany, France, Czech Republic or Hungary. I reccomend the Spanish stuff - the Eastern European stuff is really bitter.

2. your avatar kicks ass
"A Love Supreme" is one of my very favorite jazz masterpieces, and "Giant Steps" belongs in every collection, as does his work with Miles on the immortal "Kind Of Blue".

Trane! Yeah, I am happy to help you promote him.

10. why stop there?
I even love the progressive experiments of "Interstellar Space". But if we're going to draw in some neophytes, we gotta lure 'em with the basics, and work up. Perhaps "My Favorite Things" to get them started? :-)

Two suggested CD's:

"Blue Train" on Blue Note

"The Stardust Session" on Prestige

Another superb collaboration with Miles Davis, Cannonball Aderley, Red Garland, Paul Chambers, & Philly Joe Jones is "Milestones," under Miles' name on Columbia. Same group, I think, which did "Kinda Blue"

30. Oscar Peterson
Edited on Thu Mar-11-04 01:25 AM by Bundbuster
This is kinda sad, because I used to have almost all his great Pablo albums on vinyl, sold them all when I converted to CD-laziness, then was hit with financial restraints. The bottom line is that I have none of those Pablo sessions now, but you can hardly go wrong with anything on that label - mostly from the '70's - some were live in Montreux, 3 were "Satch & Josh" series with Count Basie, lots with players like Clark Terry, Eddie Cleanhead Vinson, John Heard, Louis Bellson, etc.

Trivia question - who was the Swedish bass player accompanying Oscar on alot of those albums - '70's & early '80's? My God they made so much sweet music together!

*edited for - man, does my spelling suck.

37. Ahh, Joe Pass - no but...
Joe Pass was another of Oscar's favorites (guitar) who also made tons of great music with him. The Swedish bass player was Niels Orsted Pedersen, and he was one swingin' Swede.
