2. Thanks,3
I wasn't sure. I hear a lot of people say that they only follow the new testament yet they still follow the 10 commandments.

5. Well, Jesus DID say that he didn't come to abolish the Law, but to fulfill it.
Further, he issued a New Commandment: Love each other as I have loved you (John 13:34).

11. And in fulfilling it
Edited on Sat May-02-09 12:32 PM by hippywife
he didn't mean he was enforcing it. Just that his life and sacrifice were the embodiment of the penalties. Hard to find the right word to explain it. But it goes way over the head of the fundies.

Ex-believer here. :hi:

14. Theres should be six...
That way, FOX, WB, and UPN can get involved too...

Mind you, FOX would concentrate on Leviticus and Exodus -- how's that for a pair: Mixing punishment for false sin and encouraging slavery mixed with what is tantamount to pornography with how the lady lusted after her lovers who are the size of horses and have the emissions of donkeys and all that... only one Biblical translation site has the correct translation; all the others muck it up an an embarrassing attempt to hide the embarrassing truth... :D

So much for posting the 10 Commandments on public buildings!

12. Old - The Jews got them from the "burning bush" via Moses.
Oh, and it's "testament", not "testamate".

16. Nope, the story says that Moses went up to the summit of Mount Sinai
and met God there. The burning bush episode was earlier, when Moses had fled Egypt after killing an overseer who was abusing a Hebrew slave, was tending sheep in the desert for his father-in-law, Jethro the Midianite.

32. So, the burning bush gave them to Moses who floated down the river carrying the
commandments, but then Moses looked back whence he came and turned into a pillar of salt. His brother turned into pepper, hence the phrase, "Am I my brother's keeper?" Then, the Lord God Yahoo sent the flood and Moses dissolved into saline solution.

I know my theology.

18. George Carlin's Ten Commandments
"Here is my problem with the ten commandments- why exactly are there 10? You simply do not need ten. The list of ten commandments was artificially and deliberately inflated to get it up to ten. Here's what happened..."

"Spooky language!"

19. Exodus. There are two versions.
In the version before Moses wrecks the original stone tablets, commandment 10 is the prohibition on the emotion of envy which apparently god regretted his final design decision to include that in our programming. The second restored version has #10 as a prohibition on cooking meat in milk. Both versions give different reasons for the commandments they have in common.

Of course, there really are no "10 commandments." There are 613 commandments of which the 10 are pretty much selected at random.
