4. The But Tutcher is one of my favorite artists of all time.
There is so much humor and sweetness in that drawing. You are doing a great job by encouraging him to express himself.
 :loveya:

:D

I like his use of perspective there. The But Tutcher has a great eye for detail.

What does his teacher expect him to draw, a reproduction of the Sistine Chapel? I think that's a great picture by someone who just turned 6. It has tons of detail!

And you really can feel the artist's passion for his subject. :)

10. Wonderful expressive work - and he spells better than the Freepers!
I think hating school is a good thing.
They are too damn authoritarian.

Keep teh tutcher sell supplied with drawing materials and all will be well.

15. The best part...
or worst I suppose is that he is failing art with a grade of '1'. A '1' means he "lacks an understanding of key concepts" in the areas of creativity and execution

37. I think his teacher is being vindictive.
Sure he doesn’t understand that he really shouldn’t be insulting her on a regular basis, but he doesn’t lack creativity and his execution is advanced.

26. He's a gem.
It sucks that his school is not encouraging him.

He's too young to hate school already.

He's a free spirit, resisting being bound up by the straight gray culture.

28. Excellent!
I always thought that would be a great way to go if you could swing it. Most schools seem to kill kids' natural love of learning, along with their joie de vivre.

Sad to say.

mcctatas, have you thought about doing open enrollment to send him somewhere else?

30. I tried that....
another sore spot, but the short version, the school told me they couldn't make the accommodations he needs without an IEP for autism, after much battling, we finally got the ed. dx, but we are still butting heads over details of the plan (they don't want my autism specialists input and they are offering an EBD specialist instead, never going to happen)....

long story short, because he has an IEP, they didn't have room for him at any of the other schools I applied to under open enrollment (special ed funding is always the first to go :( )

38. That's really good.
I like the school up on a hill with the car down in the front. That's good perspective.

Very creative.

We've all had crappy art teachers who were rigid and unimaginative, and squelched our creativity.

When I was little, I grabbed a crayon with a death grip and couldn't draw inside the lines.

However, I could draw fabulous cartoons freehand with a great energy of line, but they didn't care about that. That wasn't conformist enough. :grr: :banghead: :wtf:

Fortunately I had a good art teacher in junior high. She taught everyone how to do a good landscape (mountains, pine trees, waterfalls) in oil pastels so we would have something to take home and show to mama.

Three of us out of 30% came up with our own projects to do after we finished the regular work, and she encouraged us.

That is where I got hooked on Art Nouveau/Fillmore posters and dayglo paint. I loved doing those and she encouraged it.

39. it's a shame school is not enjoyable for him - is he in classes where he has

the opportunity to feel comfortable and to enjoy learning? He seems like a bright kid just from looking at the drawing.

Wish you well in finding a better educational situation so that he can feel better about it.
