instead of a new window.

http://www.tuaw.com/2008/09/08/terminal-tips-force-safari-to-open-all-links-in-new-tab/

Firefox users have been able to open all links clicked within Firefox in a new tab for a while now, but what about us poor Safari users? Well, sure, you could always hold down command while clicking a link, but that's not fun, now is it? With this simple Terminal hack, you will be surfing like a pro!

Just open Terminal (/Applications/Utilities/) and type in the following command:
defaults write com.apple.Safari TargetedClicksCreateTabs -bool true

Once you restart Safari, all clicked links will open in a new tab. If you want to reverse the command for some reason, just replace "true" with "false."

My browsing experience has gone to 11 because of this...

1. So, what's the key combo to open in a new window?
Love Safari 4 Beta, but how do I open links in a brand new window?

(I'm not a tab person, but I understand those who are :P)

2. I think it is

option+shift+click.

it is also the default behavior for Safari on a mac, are you saying that yours does not do that?

edit: If you have a two, or more, button mouse and have right click enabled, you can also right click a link and select "open link in new window"

But seriously, it should do that by default.

3. Mac. I got it, default using apple-click was opening in a new window BEHIND current.
:wtf: So I change it in preferences.

BTW, My old 20" G-5 seems to have died, very tempted to get a new 24" imac.

Any suggestions on best deals? (looking on eBay for units with applecare).

:hi:

8. Thanks, of course I really should take the old one in first.
It was working pretty well. I suspect a bad power supply.

But I want a new shiny one!!! Now!!!

and I do that, but this is easier. In fact, force links to open in new tab is one of the reasons I use and like Camino over Safari. I wish Apple would just make it an option from the get go.
