Why does my cat do this?
Edited on Mon Apr-27-09 04:48 PM by CreekDog
my cat was sleeping under the dining room table for a couple weeks --unlike normally in my room and on the bed.

from time to time, he just goes and sleeps somewhere else, until one day, i'll just pick him up at bedtime and put him on my bed and he'll sleep there for weeks --until he sleeps somewhere else until i bring him back once again.

i don't get it. if he didn't want to be on my bed, why does he stay when i bring him back? and when he goes elsewhere, why does he wait for me to bring him back if he actually wants to be on the bed after all?

1. Has something to do with destroying the world and being an alien, but I'm not sure what.
Never could quite figure out that other thread.

10. I just clicked on said person's profile.
The person is into Harleys. Good thing those don't do any environmental damage. :eyes:

3. I'd love to see what goes on in a cat's head.
Our 'next door cat' spends a lot of his days hanging out here.
For several days he slept on a dining room chair.
Then he moved to the couch for a week or so.
Then a cushion on the floor of the screened porch was the 'best' place.
Who knows.

4. Mine do that, too.

Routinely use one particular napping spot for weeks or months, then suddenly and for no apparent reason choose another one. They rotate between a few favorite spots like that. They (almost) always climb into bed with me at night, though.

I read somewhere that it has something to do with their habits in the wild, like, they don't want their scent to get too strong in one place in case there are larger predators in the area who might sniff them out while they're sleeping. I think it's also why mother cats move their litters around.

8. Because he wants to make sure you know who is boss
He's completely got you trained to pick him up and take him to bed. He just wants to make sure you don't forget, so every now and then he has to test you.

Don't worry, he knows what he's doing!

12. It's to confuse predators. Little Skeezix rotates among 3 places and my bed.
Fire-breathing dragons will never find her.

17. Cats change the places where they sleep pretty often.
It's a cat thing. They just do that. My cats do the same thing. I've never seen a cat that didn't do that, actually.
