PSA: Do NOT point a gardening hose at hornets.
If you don't have some sort of certification in sharp-shooting, do NOT attempt to defend yourself in this manner.

I was out on this beautifully warm, sunny day, giving the Bird a bath....when a hornet decided to dance circles around my right thigh. He startled me - so I kinda jumped. And that seemed to piss him off; so I pointed my hose - which was in "sharp spray" mode - at the SOB. I missed. He didn't.

He got me in the wrist. I have a welt the size of a golf ball, taking up the entire inside of my right wrist. This stings like a bitch.

Bastard.

1. Wasps
You attack them, even with bug spray, and they will come after you.

They are pissy creatures at times.

So sorry you were stung!

(MSG paste and ice work best.)

7. Or hairspray
it glues their wings together and they can't fly...will drop like a stone.

9. Yeah, I've used that before, but it was always in the house.
I've used it on spiders as well. They start to run, and then they start to slow down, eventually freezing in their tracks.

Morbid, I know - but desperate times call for desperate measures.

8. PSA: the CO2 of your breath infuriates stinging insects.
It incites predator response..so if you get excited and therefore breath more rapidly you are going to make things worse..I know its hard but calmly walking away is the best with wasps hornets and bees..And since hornets can sting multiple times..Sorry about your wrist..

I hadn't had my shorts on very long before Sophie..aka "CreekKitty" decided to jump in my lap and wasn't being careful, resulting in THIS:

And yes, I realize my skin is pasty white...thats why I was out on the porch today! ;)

11. or at yellow jackets.
I accidently hit a hidden ground nest while washing bird poo off our small pond. The swarm came out instantly. Luckily I got away with just a few stings, but a couple "perv" ones got me on the panty line. Such little creatures...but they sure can make a big painful welt.

I hope your wrist feels better soon.

16. I once sucked a hornet nest up with my vaccum cleaner.
I'm surprised that I didn't die.

I duct-taped the business end of the vacuum hose to a couple of long extension poles and a flashlight and attacked at night.

I got every one of the fuckers. They kept crazily attacking the hose and fwoop! Sucked!

When they were gone, I looked into the clear canister to see all of them very alive and furious.

I had to leave the vacuum cleaner on because they just tried to crawl out when I turned it off.

Finally found some poison and sprayed it inside. Lucky it didn't catch on fire.

Messy. Don't do it.
