It's shocking at how the series evolved. Originally, it was very similar to Roseanne, but I get they needed to change it up a bit, since Roseanne had the working class dysfunctional family market cornered back in the late 80s.

I'm not complaining, either, because I felt the later episodes were far more enjoyable than the original season. But it's just interesting to watch the first few episodes and compare it to the final seasons, as Al and Peg actually had a functional relationship.

1. All the good shows evolve.
Married With Children is a great example. Look at another Fox show - The Simpsons. Homer was originally modeled after Walter Matthau. Then he evolved into the stupid Homer that we all know and love. Then he took a turn and became jerkass Homer. Now he's a combination of the two, only he's sort of aware of his own stupidity.

2. Very true, The Simpsons have evolved a lot over the last 20 years.

Their first couple of seasons had some gems, but it didn't really start becoming LOL funny until around season 5.

3. Apparently
Matt Groening originally identified with Bart, then later identified with Homer.

6. And Kelly wasnt dumber than a retarded goldfish either!
The only one that didnt change was the dog. Till they killed him. But even the replacement dog was the same.

8. Yup, she was kinda smart.
Marcy changed the most, though. She went from some right-wing conservative to a feminist by the end of the show.
