Enough about Rush--let's hear about Triumph?
Edited on Thu Apr-09-09 12:06 PM by eyepaddle
Were they more lame thatn Rush for their "Hair Metal" Tendencies--or did Rik Emmett's sweeter vocals than Geddy Lee or (let's face it) more fluid guitar work than Alex Lifeson offset that?

In the interst of full disclosure: I kind of like both bands, although I've only owned one album from each and those are both long gone. But back when I still had them, it was Triumph's Thunder Seven that made it's way into my stereo a bit more frequently.

Oh yeah, Lest we forget, here's a sample of the OTHER Canadian power trio with a keyboard playing bassist!

1. Magic Power is the greatest song ever.
And, I'm serious. Love it.

4. Wow, that's quite the endorsement!
I must admit I did not expect this to start off so positively! :)

2. They're way more lame than Rush.
I mean, they're lame. Rush, of course, rocks.

I do have their Classics album, and I do like a few of their songs. But they're just not all that and a side of back bacon.

7. See midlo's response.
Yours is more in line with what I was anticipating.

But in the clip I linked to, you just have to LOOOOOVVEE that sweet trucker hat Mike Levine is sporting--and that was a good twenty years before trucker hats were ironically cool.

17. I still haven't made it past the first ten seconds.
I'm really enjoying the crowd shot at the beginning.

13. Yes, you're right.
They are the future of Canadian rock.
They are the Asher Heimermann of Canadian power trios.

5. There are no other power trios with a keyboard playing bassist
from Canada. Only Rush.
There is a reason why almost everyone has heard of Rush and very few Triumph

9. Hate to say it, but check the video--Mike levine walksover and hits a few keys
granted he doesn't sing a la Geddy--but if he did--well that would be just too coincidentally similar fot the universe to contain!

10. Triumph is the poor man's Rush
and that's saying quite a bit.

16. You can realllly tell that Triumph was a business partnership more than a band
and let'd just say I wasn't at all surprised when Rik Emmett bailed on the whole thing and started playing jazz.

I think he is back to Rock and Roll now, putting out albums he records at his house. But it is a guilty pleasure--I like the glassy, mildly crunchy tone of whatever that semi-hollow body-thingy he was always playing.
