58. The Big Unit
threw 184 innings last year, plus he had a 3.91 ERA while pitching in a hitters ballpark. He stays healthy, he'll be a great pick up for the Giants.

BTW, we're not "relying" on him..Johnson just supplements what is already a great starting staff. His experience will be great for youngsters like Lincecum, Cain and Sanchez too.

I met Steve Young at the movies while going to school in Utah.

Couldn't meet a nicer guy. It was right after the 49ers beat Denver in that 1990 Superbowl.

Saw Montana as I left my building after work, he was coming out of an interview at our neighbor KFOG 104.5.

They're the closest team to me, they do have talent but they need some more pitching. I listened to their game when I was at Little Creek NAB this afternoon:-) It'll be a long season, but count me in! Maybe President Obama will attend a game or two when the Cubs come to Nationals Park:-)

28. I just talked to TZ about it.
Would you believe that I listened to it on the radio, all the way up until the top of the 7th...I was so aggravated that we were getting slaughtered YET AGAIN by Chipper and the tomahawks, that I turned off the radio. Bottom of the 7th and all hell broke loose. We scored 8 runs in that inning alone.

I think I need to do what LynneSin does with the Eagles - which is to turn off the game so that they win. My presence is affecting their game, obviously.

81. Didn't last season start out really badly?
As I recall, they were awful in preseason play last year, and pretty bad in early season play (I could be wrong).

When I was a tiny little girl, my dad used to travel a lot. The only time I ever saw him during the week was when he would come in at night an wake me up to say goodnight. All season I would ask "did the Phillies win?" and most of the time he would say "Yup!"

They were SO heading for the World Series - up by 6 1/2 games with the end in sight, and then they lost 10 games in a row. And my poor dad had to come home every night to a little girl whose first question was "did the Phillies win?".

Good initiation into Phillies fandom, though

Hang in there BeachBaby

I got mugged in Camden a few years ago. Not such a good place to be. :(

My family is originally from Philly, but migrated to Jersey in the early 50s. I was born in Philly, but have lived in Jersey my entire life. I grew up in Brooklawn and Audubon.....lived in Sicklerville for a few years, and currently live in the most rural area of Gloucester County. I'm about 20 minutes from Philly and 20 minutes from Wilmington, Delaware. :) :hi:

70. Yeah this is going to sound bad but
We were happy in some way when my grandfather passed away years ago, because then we could convince my grandmother to move the fuck out of Camden, and we would not have to go there to visit any more. It was his home forever and he would not leave it no matter how bad things got.

We lived in Bellmawr when I was a very Little Robot and moved to MI not long after I was born. Relatives are scattered throughout the area but the only ones I am really close are in Cherry Hill, although I think the uncle I don't care for lives in your neck of the woods.

They are usually stubborn about a change of surroundings, of being out of their element - even if it's considered to be the most crime-ridden city in America. :scared:

I am VERY familiar with Bellmawr. It's right next door to Brooklawn....and it's where my XH grew up. And he lives there now.

As for Cherry Hill, EVERY South Jersey native is familiar with it. It's the shopping mecca, after all. :)

32. As someone who put up a post like this about a year ago, let me suggest
the Minnesota Twins. Small market, almost contracted. It took me a few years to settle on them, but I was too crushed by the move of my beloved Expos to jump on another train too quickly.

80. Yeah. I agree with you.
Besides, I kinda have an emotional investment in Minneapolis - so they are already my favorite AL team. ;)

60. Says the Pirates fan
a team that hasn't won since Bonds left...what is that now, 16 consecutive losing seasons? If this was the EPL they would have been relegated long ago.

87. There's a 2-0 team about 70 miles south/southwest of you.
Historic franchise, three World Series victories, six World Series appearances, one of the best ballparks in baseball. All within an easy drive.

The past is past. Plus the prior history all but compliments a move from the Phillies to your Baltimore Orioles.

Not to mention that much like Baltimore, Philadelphia's street grid is relatively orderly and logical. Hence she would be at home in Charm City, whereas there would be a 45% chance she would never escape the evils of the DC traffic grid should she try going there for a Nationals game.

I takes me shorter time to get home from a Nats game vs Baltimore..Metro does wonders...Right up to the stadium it takes you..I'll take a short hop on the subway vs a drive down 95 ANYDAY...
