6. I was a grad student at Gibby's undergrad
- Trinity University in San Antonio. There after he had graduated. He was national honor student in accounting or something weird like that. There was rumoured to be an award of such that hung in the business dept. I never ventured over, so can't swear to it. I'm not certain if Leary and Koffey also went there.

Last saw them in 1991, I think. Painful split screen dental work video and sex change operation clips, complete with Betty Page intersplices - as I recall - a tad fuzzy. :smoke:

Saw them outside in 90, maybe and that was great, too. They played really well.

Great band, a true texas original.

8. I was until they got greedy....
Their earlier discs and live performances were life altering. And even some of their more contrived later rock efforts were surprisingly enjoyable for what they were.

But any band that sues Corey Rusk, one of the most honest men of integrity in the world of underground rock, deserves little more than my contempt.

9. I didn't hear about that...
I haven't followed them too much recently... last times I saw them was twice in 1993. (independent worm saloon tour)

Gibby is just so masterful! I made a compliation to listen to in my car today.. that includes stuff all the way from "Jet Fighter" and "Shame of Life".. as well as "I Had a Dream" all the way back to Ricky, Rocky, Creep in the Cellar, Negro Observer.... a nice comp...

What was the deal with that lawsuit?

Heyo

10. Not sure of the details...
From what I understand, they had their 2 or 3 "hits" during the mid 90's post Nirvana alternative revolution. Once that well dried up, for some reason they sued Corey Rusk to get the rights to their old records.

I know on the surface that sounds reasonable, but the way Corey and Touch and Go has always worked is that the label foots the bill for everything and then profits are split 50/50 betwen the label and the band. This is a great deal for any band even on an indie, but T&G has always kept control of every record they've released. Until they were sued by the BH Surfers.

There's much much much much more to this but I can't say I remember all the details. There was a great, extensive analysis of it in Punk Planet a few years back. And unlike the Dead Kennedy's lawsuits around the same time, wherein everyone came out looking bad on all sides, the BHS/T&G lawsuit was clearly the band being greedy and screwing over an old friend and man of integrity.
