Shamu has peed IN THE LITTERBOX twice in one day!!!!!!!!
He had a UTI a couple of weeks ago. The vet wasn't too worried, and put him on an antibiotic, which he finished a few days ago, and said to start feeding him a "urinary tract health" cat food. Could be the prescription food Leon eats or a cheaper, OTC version. So, I made that change, finished the antibiotic, and he's stopped peeing on the puppy pad in front of the litterbox. He walked right into the litterbox, sat down, peed, and even covered it!!! So much more pleasant than dealing with the puppy pads, which he regularly missed anyway.

Yay!!

'Night. :hi:

2. Wishing you the bet on dealing with UTI fun stuff....
Our Ninja is about to be having to have surgery -- he had stones, but they seemed to come back more often when he had an infection. The pH of the urine is altered when they're infected and they're more likely to get crystals and stones. He'd gotten blocked twice, and then the third time he stopped peeing was when he was just so inflamed and painful that he didn't want to go, and when he could he couldn't squeeze the urine out due to the inflammation.

Unfortunately he can't seem to kick this infection. He'd chosen the couch as his favorite place, which we'd covered with the puppy pads, but he's starting to go in the box more. The puppy pads save our furniture but they are not fun to clean up!

When we can get this infection beat, they're going to schedule the surgery to keep him from getting blocked again. We've also been feeding him the prescription diet, which has helped with the crystals but not with the infection. They switched antibiotics, so we're hoping it'll work.

We've set up two boxes to give him an alternate place when his little brain equated the litter box with pain... and we've been giving him an antiinflammatory medicine twice a week that the vet recommended. Kitties have such delicate systems and they can't tolerate the medicines really well, this one is rather dangerous but he's in such pain that I feel it's more humane to risk the kidney problems it can cause (it's called Metacam, you can Google the horror stories with it -- that's why he only gets 3 drops twice a week in his food) than it would be to let him go without relief.

3. Mine went to the vet. Vet gave me antibiotics to give to him.

He's peed on the bed after finishing the antibiotics, so that obviously didn't work. Frankly I think maybe my cat is doing it for mental reasons. What urinary tract food are you feeding him?

6. We had trouble with one kitty when we tried to change the type of litter
we were using. I was going nuts. Took me a while to figure it out, but once we went back to the old stuff all problems cleared up.

8. Cats are so damned fickle!
Change the stuff they piss into. Good grief!

I'm serious, Bill Cosby had it right. They are all brain damaged!

17. I'm feeding Shamu Purina ONE Urinary Tract Health. Leon eats
Purina Veterinary Diet UR st/ox. The vet said the Purina ONE is okay since Shamu has only had UTI. If he should develop crystals, which haven't shown up in his urinalysis so far, she'd want him on the Veterinary Diet, too. I'm hoping we can nip this before it becomes full-fledged FLUTD.

7. Were you pooping on the floor next to toilet before this morning?
We can call the vet for you too, if you think it would help. Or we can put out puppy pads, I suppose, but nobody ever likes to deal with those...

21. Two words: Pill Pockets. Ask for 'em by name.
When I'm using pill pockets to give one critter a pill, I have to give the others pill pockets just as treats, or they get really pissed.

22. My cat wised up to Pill Pockets.
They were a lifesaver before he decided to nom on them instead of swallow them whole. Now my finger has chunks taken out of it.
