7. Sad but true....

Character is learned and formed at an early age... I see preschool children show empathy toward others as an important part of their social & emotional growth. Yet many children can be cruel...and it continues through teenage years. When does one finally take on that human trait and burst out of the bullying high school mentality....if ever? It's so simple to live by The Golden Rule...but maybe not so much for the tormented and wretched? This is babble as I'm in analysis paralysis mode....insomnia.

How can one revel in cruelty? :shrug:

I have been dismayed by the level of vitriol on DU lately. I've been here for years and I've never seen it this bad--the pointless attacks, the sheer mean-spiritedness just for the sake of lashing out, to get a rise out of others. Why? :shrug:

As of late, all I read is children's literature, and he's one of my favorites....
People make choices....yet they can also change their paths. I'm far from perfect, very far...but can't imagine going out of my way to inflict pain....It's done with purpose. But what's the purpose? If it's done to make one feel superior, don't people understand that it doesn't shine that way?
I only know that my children would be very ashamed of me if I engaged in this type of behavior...

I've not been in the lounge for long, but have recently noted certain topics and am also dismayed...very.

It's timeless...
As a mother and grandmother, children are my life....and my life's work. So with all that I've seen here, my mind went directly to the children...When I see misguided and sad children with problems, they lash out at others and I wonder what will become of them as adults...I can only hope for goodness...

I've never spoken out on the board...about the board...but the time has come.

I didn't want to kick it, so I replied instead..:-)
Being an idealist certainly doesn't make one ideal...it merely serves to take on the pain of others when they are exploited for fun. I never thought I'd see that here....I thought it would be a different kind of place...and yet I stay....There are so many outlandish and crazed posts here that are really too strange for words...and laughter is the best when one feels down.

The hurtful topics are one thing, and then the mean-spirited comments are another.....I guess we don't get it because we're not wired to post these types of things...:hug:

I don't know how I'm judged or percieved....matters not. To date, have only received one snarky remark...
I won't forget it...surely it affects others in the same way. Then again, I'm overly sensitive...

I have mixed feelings, both ways. But the drama was awful, and pretty mean spirited at times. And then there was more drama to complain about the drama. Sheesh!

And that does not account for the wars that go on behind the scenes, I'm sure. Lot's of history here, I can tell. As in I notice, not in that I have personal knowledge.

There ARE a few gems in the ashes. I know that for certain.

I can't imagine wars behind the scenes....I've not been in the lounge very long...I read that there are, but don't know what's up with anything. I hope that this thread isn't fueling the fire, only meant for people to stop and reflect....I often do.

Yet I've been here long enough to note posts that are meant to dig at people, and they then act innocent. It's so very obvious that one has to wonder why they think they're taken seriously regarding their feigned innocence... These are people who seem to project themselves as respectful in real life, so it seems quite bizarre to me. I guess I can't go on beating a dead horse....I've not voiced my opinion here before as I tend to be very quiet.

Last night I saw something again...the same routine. I got up from my desk, said, "FUCKER!" and blasted music to get it out of my head. This was from the person who inspired me to start the thread. Is referring to a DUer as an 'inspiration' considered to be a 'call out?" Now when coming to a board gets that bad for me, I should stay away.
Truly, it's only a handful that I've noted.....but it's enough to see through the games.

There really ARE a few gems here, I know this for a fact.

And there are also some good people here who get called out and others who get wrapped up in the nonsense. I pretty much like everyone here, but I don't have the wherewithal to dig into the weeds and ditches. I have enough to deal with IRL.

There are some really good people and souls here. And well, a few assholes. They all tend to present themselves, one way or another. Not my problem.

I'm glad for your post, because I didn't want to make a big issue of it myself. You put it quite succinctly and politely.
