That's what I'm doing now - Memphis is getting beat like John McCain in November. Down 22 with about 15 minutes left.

On the bright side, after this game is over I can throw away my bracket and stop following this crap.

3. I feel your pain, friend.
I don't mean this in any way other than a respectful one, but looking at your screen name I have to ask: was Memphis a pick made with your head or your heart? I decided to try them merely because everyone in my office was going with Pitt, NC or Louisville.

4. On the contrary

I attend the University of Tennessee.

I like Memphis enough, but there are few sports memories I am less fond of than watching in person as my future alma mater fumbled around their game against Memphis earlier this season and fucked it up. Ugh.

If I were to have a rooting interest with my heart, it would be Mizzou, where my dad went to grad school.

6. Ah.
Well, sympathies. I have no vested interest in any team that was in this year's bracket or any other - my school (Dawson College) couldn't compete with the CBI teams even if it was eligible. I just play the brackets to be part of the office fun. I've won twice in the last six years, so even after my first win I was playing with house money. :)

7. One other question
Did you live in Missouri? I note that you're a Cards fan; is that because your dad is or because you used to live there?

I'm an Expos fan, I was in on the ground floor and was a fan for every day of their existence. It took a few years to get over the loss, but as for now I'm throwing my hat in with Minnesota - another small market team which was considered for contraction.

8. Being a Cardinals fan is a family tradition
My great grandfather was a St. Louian. My grandfather is from Chattanooga, my dad from New Orleans, and myself from Nashville, so the only major league baseball team we're connected to is the Cardinals. They're probably my favorite franchise in sports.

9. Well, I wish them luck.
Because they were an Expos opponent I have no real love for them, but I fucking HATE the Cubs. :)

11. The Cubs are fun to hate
These last two postseasons, which we missed, were salvaged by their sheer ineptitude in the playoffs. It was a thing of beauty to watch.

Do you continue following your franchise in Washington, or did you break off your fanhood of them?

BTW, Memphis down only eight.

12. I broke off my fanhood.
I lived in Quebec for many years of the Expos' existence, and even though I now live in the Nats' back yard, it just isn't the same.

10. Yup ...

I was okay after the first round with the right teams still in it to get good play from the later rounds, but things like this kill it.

The Sweet Sixteen is the one that always kills me.

13. Last year,
I won 44 of my first 48 picks. I had never even HEARD of that sort of success rate on the first weekend (I know it had been done, just had never heard of it personally), and had all 16 Sweet Sixteen teams still alive.

The following weekend, I crumpled up my bracket and threw the little bastard into the trash. :(

14. Last year was messed up ...

That's part of what moved me to pick the way I did this year, which is really kinda silly when you think about it, but there you are.

I could still get the Final Four with one of my brackets, the one I basically picked with coin tosses I should add. The one I considered carefully could get 3 of 4 now, but I suspect, based on the way things are going, that will be down to 2 of 4 tomorrow.

Ah, it's fun anyway. I love March.

16. Glad I went to bed early
My bracket's been dead since the second day of the Tourney (Fucking Cleveland State)

I'll keep watching since my alma mater's still in it and their former coach Dean Smith does a lot for progressive causes.

Being a Buffalo Bills fan is tough.

But being a Mizzou alum this morning feels like Christmas.
