AHAHAHA - my cat just barely escaped
I was sitting here at the computer (as usual on any given evening).

Earlier, I had been through the hall closet looking something, and had left out a few things. One of these things was a plastic gift bag with long plastic handles which now lay on the floor, an evident invitation to my thoroughly laid-back kitty.

Suddenly, my cyberdaze was shattered by my usually docile cat now doing frantic laps around the apartment. He had tried to make that bag a hideout, and had inadvertently popped his head thru one of the handles. And then he realized that he couldn't simply walk away.

I have never realized how much ground there was to cover in this one bedroom apartment, or how fast this cat could cover it. He was almost lapping himself in a desperate attempt to outrun that bag, but it just wasn't working. Faster and faster he ran, but no matter how fast he went, that bag was right on his ass, about to overtake and devour him at any moment.

My empathy for his trauma couldn't stop me from doubling over at the sight.

Finally, as I tackled the poor pursued pet, yelling "kitty! kitty, stop!" thru the laughter and the tears, the chase ended. I held his body and slipped the bag off of his head, and he took a place behind the couch, guardedly watching as I proceeded to cut the handles off of the bag. And there he has remained. Poor thing.

And I thought I had a rough day.

1. lol
the same EXACT thing happened to one of my guys a few months ago. I couldn't stop laughing and he couldn't figure out why I found this attack on him so funny.

4. My Simba experienced the same
a few years ago. This naughty boy had jumped onto the kitchen counter, a place he KNOWS he is not to be on, and got plastic bag handles wrapped around his neck. Oh, the hilarity of watching him dashing madly up and down the stairs before finally cowering in the basement, where I caught up with him and removed the offending bag. Chagrined and embarrassed, he avoided the kitchen counter for oh, a day or so.

I'll bet you had a good laugh with your kitty too! :silly:

3. Our cat Merlin did this on Christmas Eve..He looked like a deranged
superhero with that bag flying out behind him. He normally doesn't move that fast due to his weight issues. My husband had to spend a long time calming his poor, overworked heart down...But man, I wish I had a video tape of that. :hi:

5. Glad it turned out funny.
My cat used to love to play in paper bags. So my child (about 7 at the time) had a plastic bag with handles and enticed Cat into it. Same thing happened as with your cat...except: She was so freaked out that while tearing from one end of the house to the other she evacuated bladder and bowels. Everyplace, getting it into four or five rooms.

We didn't do that trick again.

6. Poor kitty
I realized he was traumatized whie it was happeneing, and it sure wasn't fun for him, but I just could not help myself laughing at the sight.

Ironically, I cat-proof my apt. daily. I put away any plastic bags from the grocer time as I get home. When I leave, I double check to make sure the appliances are turned off an unplug any cords that might be available to him. I unplug the tv and floor lamp and tie up the cords in such a way that they're no potential danger to him.

Just couldn't help laughing at the bag chase, tho. Even while realizing that, in my cat's mind, he must have literally been running for his life.
