Why is it that people who habitually talk bad behind people's backs
are the ones who really really hate it when people talk behind theirs?

1. Because they are cowards, bullies, or both. That's why.

3. And people who like to talk trash and poke fun (jokingly, of course) get
all bent when it directed at them? Some people are frightened, self-absorbed, bullies, I guess...

4. I can take it as well as dish it.
Life is too damned short to take anything too seriously.

8. That's my philosophy - my sense of humor tends toward mocking
and sparring, and I can appreciate a good dig even if it's aimed at me. Some folks are too important for that sort of thing (if they do say so themselves)...

7. They do this because they want "control" over something, and when people do it to themq
Edited on Fri Mar-20-09 06:26 PM by Mike 03
they worry they are losing control.

I have a sister who is exactly like this. It's unbelievable how hypocritical she is about judging our other sister, but she freaks out whenever we dare to question her or talk about her problems.

It is shame on her part, and she feels guilty and embarrassed.

And it's that total loss of control over how people view her.

ON EDIT:

For clarification:

I view it as an attempt by one person to control the perception of others of another person, as well as to censor others from talking about him/her in order to do the same thing: control the perception others have of the person who speaks badly of others.

If that makes sense. I'm confusing myself...

9. Maybe some people deserve to be talked about.
And everyone talks about others behind their back. Everyone at some point. Doesn't mean you hate them though.

10. Have you ever had someone ask "What did you say about me"? like your whole world
revolves around them and they're almost hurt when their name wasn't brought up?

11. Yes, it is nuts!
What people are saying about me behind my back, is quite frankly, none of my business.

The person I am referring to in this thread is the same one who does the whole "reply all" thing in email to make herself look good. And she has specifically told me and at least one other person not to discuss stuff with anybody but her. So no talking to the other people involved (because then we find out the crappy stuff she has been doing behind everyone's back).
