Poll question: Best Post-Classic Bowie Album
That is, the Bowie albums that came after Scary Monsters...

3. I picked 'Tonight'.
Great album. The title track, with Tina Turner is fantastic, as is Tumble and Twirl, and Blue Jean. His Tin Machine period was awful, awful noise.

4. That was originally an Iggy Pop song about a woman OD'ing on Heroin
And the refrain of "Everything will be alright..." is the song he sings to her, in his arms, as she dies.

Check it out for a whole different take on the song.

5. It was that string of early 80s hits from "Let's Dance"...
... from my early adolescence which made me want to hear and appreciate more of his material from the 70s. Sure, I heard "Fame" and "Golden Years" on the AM radio in the car when I was 6 or whatever and thought they were catchy, but at that point I didn't care enough to start discerning artists from each other. :)

6. To me his career is neatly bookended by
"Space Oddity" and its sequel, "Ashes to Ashes" with its great ending. So I'll have to say "none" because really none of his 80s, 90s or later albums appeal to me.

7. The only thing truly great about the "Let's Dance" album was the guitar.
The introduction of one Stevie Ray Vaughan to the world, to be specific. Without that, it would have been much like most of the other synth-pop dance albums of the time. Sounded good then, but dated now - as opposed to the timeless quality of the classic stuff.

I loved the Tin Machine albums, because it was a return to the 4 man rock band format. Hell, he even let the drummer sing on the second album.

9. Not even Reality?
I mean, compared to everything else, isn't it at least "better"?

11. Believe it or not, I would actually choose Let's Dance...
despite being the release that kicked off the whole "what in the hell is he doing?" era.
It does contain "Putting Out Fire With Gasoline" and a pretty fair version of "China Girl"
Also, I enjoy SRV's playing on the record. And I don't care for his playing on anything else.

10. Outside - easily (minus 'hypercycle' track order and fugues)

Strangers when we meet - A top ten
Heart's Filthy Lesson - Shivers - more as I grow older.
And then there's this:

Mama can I kiss you, daddy can I ... tell
Innocence passed me by
Wanna be screwing when the nightmare comes
(I wish you well, I wish you well)
Wanna come quick then die

12. What about the soundtrack to Labyrinth?

Overall I'd have to say that his post-classic "best" is Let's Dance, because it was his last album that really sounded, to me, like he knew what he was doing. Everything else after that sort of felt like he was casting about to see what might take hold, rather than producing a record that he wanted to produce.
