I think the death of Natasha Richardson is absolutely tragic.
Sure, she was an actress. Her mother and husband are both celebrities. So was most of her family, for that matter.

I don't think celebrities are immune from sympathy, just because they are celebrities. She had a freak accident, and a tragic one. She left behind 2 young sons, and a devastated husband and mother. Famous though they may be. Her death couldn't be anymore senseless.

5. That crossed my mind too. And also that
Harry was so young then, and inconsolable. As I recall, they had to hold off that funeral walk for him to straighten up. What a horrible thing for any child to endure.

2. I feel the same...
And I'm still trying to figure out why.

I think it's because she was so damn young, not much older than my oldest daughter...

And I know she and Liam Neeson were so happy, so much in love, and of course their two boys...

This one really hurts me.

Plus, I had just seen her movie "The Handmaid's Tale" last weekend. So her face and her role were so fresh in my mind.

This death feels so damn personal...

6. There is no why. Accidental death never makes any sense.
And yes, this one does seem personal

9. same here, CaliforniaPeggy.
It has just hit me hard. Every time I woke up last night I'd think of her senseless death. Just truly tragic, and it really has upset me. It seems like such a freak accident - people fall from huge heights and don't die; she fell on the bunny slope and it's over.

I can't really explain it. But I am very disturbed by it.

3. It just goes to show what a fragile and precious gift LIFE is.
She fell down in the snow, and then BOOM she's dead? That's messed up.
Heck, I've taken blows to the head that permanently changed
the shape of my skull, and I'm still here.

It just goes to show that any of us can check out at any time,
for any reason.
If you live with someone you love, make sure you tell them that
you love them every time you leave the house. Because there ain't
no guarantee that you'll be coming back.

Life is FRAGILE, and DEATH doesn't give a rat's ass for our petty notions
of "justice" or "fair play".

Then she died from it. :wtf:

10. It's like the thousand folks who die every year from the common cold.
Edited on Fri Mar-20-09 03:52 AM by Richard Steele
They have a case of the sniffles, and then the next morning they're dead.
Ain't no rhyme or reason to it, but it happens every day.

I've got dents in my skull from 30 years ago when I caught a full swing
from a garden rake, tooth-side foreward.

And a few years back, I met a fellow at a party
who had worked his way through college
by painting cell-phone towers during the summers...

He had been involved in an incident where a co-worker
dropped a hammer from 150 feet above him, and he caught that hammer
with his head.
I'm 6 feet tall, I have big hands, and this dude is walking around
with a dent in his head that I can stick my entire left pinkie finger into.
I shit you not.

And yet, someone in perfect health can go schussiing down the Bunny Slope,
and be one "oops I fell down" moment away from death.

Nothing much makes any goddamned sense in this world, Itellyouwhut...

4. To tell you the truth I had to be reminded of which movies she was in. I didn't initially know her
But there was something about hearing about her two young sons that had me in tears yesterday. She wasn't a celebrity to me then. She was a mom leaving behind children who had to go and say goodbye at the hospital. Maybe it's because I'm without both of my parents, but I was just a weepy mess yesterday thinking about it.

She was hosting the AmFAR charity that the contestants cooked for. She seemed a very gracious, intelligent woman.

27. Yes! She reminds me of "Samantha"
on Sex in the City. I saw on video from CNN website of Liam Neeson hugging Sarah Jessica Parker, held on her for a while. (at the Boardway when they dimmed lights for Natasha.) I am a huge fan of Liam Neeson and Vanessa Redgrave, didn't really know Natasha, but what happened to her really touched my heart. How terrible for her family. Reading that Liam and Natasha were close to each other, in love, had a good marriage, devoted...so rare brought tears in my eyes.

Far, far too young to lose a mother.

And to something so senseless???

15. Missy, her family is very private and family oriented, not at all
"Hollywood" flash types. She wa taking beginners ski lessons with her kids when she fell.
It is very sad that this should happen to such good people.

Makes me feel very lucky to be here at all...

16. Yeah, this has bothered me a hell of a lot more than most "celebrity" deaths
I feel personally upset about it, and that doesn't usually happen to me when famous people die. I think it's because she really was such a genuine person - not an ounce of Hollywood star fame-whore fakery in her body. She was a professional actress, not a "celebrity." I think there's a world of difference. I mean sure, she was famous because of her family and because of her own distinguished work, and also because her husband is a well-known and famous actor, too, but she was never one of the "I love being famous" crowd. Her family was the real deal, too - a loving marriage to a devoted husband, and two sons, and a mother who should never have had to bury her own daughter. God, it's just so goddamn sad.

20. Apparently she was very friendly and down to earth....
I live in her neighborhood (UWS,NYC) and all the local loved her and her family. I read that all the doormen in her building burst into tears when they heard about her death.

For some reason her passing just haunts me, it's so tragic and so senseless. And when I think that Cheney and Bush and Bernie Madoff are still alive and well, it makes me lose all faith that there is any fairness in the world.

23. I am an Alan Rickman fan; admittedly borderlining on obsession,
and have seen all of his films. He and Natasha Richardson starred together in a film called Blow Dry. If you haven't seen it, do yourself a favor and rent it. It is a wonderful movie and she does a fantastic job playing a woman who has a terminal illness. And yes, it is a comedy, but very touching.

28. That is a sad example
of life imitating art. Liam is such a classy guy, coming out to be part of the light dimming event on Broadway, receiving the love and prayers and good wishes from all of those around him. He almost seemed to be comforting those who were there to comfort him.
