Tonight, I'm writing a poem about death...
It's longer than most I've done...

Not ready to be posted though!

So...

What're all you good people up to?

Inquiring minds and all that!

:hi:

1. Can't we go back to poems about welding?
and other topics that involve milling, turning, threading, and joining?

;-)

13. My dear CP
There are two greek roots in "thanatopsis"

thanatos = death

opsis = sight

The combination means something like "looking at death".

Hey, I almost didn't see your post!

And I thank you for the illuminating words...

I was mixing up the word thanatos with thanatopsis.

Oops.

It's like nothing I've done before...

My stuff's nearly always personal, and this is no exception.

I hope it'll be heart-rending by the time I'm done with it...

Oooh...how's your son doing?

I hope well!

Thanks for asking about the bluesboy. He is doing really well. Starts physical therapy on Monday. We're taking it very slow to make sure the knee is totally calm before he does anything strenuous.

Nah, not to worry about too personal...

I'm writing from my own point of view, on how death might affect me if I lose someone close to me...

We'll see!

22. What a relevant topic
Edited on Fri Mar-20-09 06:13 AM by RFKHumphreyObama
Death has been on my mind a lot recently

Firstly because of the tragic and untimely death of Natasha Richardson earlier this week. How sad -a young, beautiful, healthy mother, wife and actress with everything to live for dying in a freak accident that seemed so harmless on the surface. I can't even imagine what her poor husband and children must be going through

Secondly because of the passing of my mother over a year ago, something I have obviously yet to come to terms with. How can someone so vibrant, who loved life so much and who had everything to live for be gone? She died of a disease that she defied the statistical odds to get and at too young an age and I miss her more than ever be expressed in words or probably even in thoughts. Her first grandchild was born two months ago and she, the member of our family who loved children the most and was absolutely longing to see her first grandchild, is not here to see it.

And yet, at the same time, I don't personally fear death in the way that some people do -although I may fear the process of dying. My faith gives me hope, even inspiration, to look beyond death and look at the bigger picture. I know that people grieve in different ways and, for me, my faith has been like a rock.

I look forward to reading your poem. Coming from you, it can't be anything but excellent

30. My dear RFKHumphreyObama...
I'm so sorry to hear about your mom...I cannot adequately express my feelings on your loss, and on hers.

I hope that someday, you will be able to look back on your time here with her, and be comforted by the love and joy you shared.

And I must say that I envy you your faith; I have none. I have hopes, of course, but religious faith eludes me.

I'm working hard on my poem. I can only hope that I am able to rise to your expectations...

Oh, thanks!

I'll post it when I think it's ready!

Write something (even if you think it's crap!) every day...

And whenever you have an idea for something you want to explore, write the fragment down! I've done both of those things, and they've really helped me...

Good luck!

Your work sounds interesting...

Yeah, death is the biggest topic in our existence, for sure...esp. as we get older, and nearer!

My day is good...but the sun really isn't out at all. It's trying, but the overcast is winning so far...

We shall see.

Good luck with your travel plans, sweetie!
