My nephew has a disease called FOP. A rare genetic condition known as Fibrodysplasia Ossificans Progressiva (FOP). Simply stated, FOP causes muscles and other connective tissue to turn into bone, eventually causing immobility as FOP bone fuses joints.

It is a devastating condition. Anyway, tomorrow morning Adam is facing dental surgery. Now to us, dental surgery is no big deal for the most part ...
His mother, my sister in law wrote to me and asked for prayers for him and I'm pasting her note here in hopes that you all will have some good vibes, prayers, whatever for him.

Adam is having dental surgery in Toronto this Friday at Mount Sinai Hospital.
He can't have regular dental care like we do because his jaw is limited in opening, and he can't have intramuscular injections into his jaw because of his FOP.
I'm hoping these specialists in Toronto, will be gentle on his jaw. He unfortunately has extensive work to do in his mouth because he wouldn't see a dentist for almost 4 years and his teeth have started to rot. It's very difficult to brush his teeth for him also, because of the lack of extension of his jaw.
So since we can't take him to Philadelphia to see the renowned specialist for dental patients with FOP. I have to rely on the ones here that are in contact with the ones in the U.S.
Needless to say, one wrong move and Adam's jaw could become affected and lock up. Then we are looking at a bleak future because eating becomes difficult and most people suffering with FOP have shortened life spans because of the lack of nutrition as well as respiratory difficulties due to the restriction in the chest muscles as well as swallowing.
That's just stuff I don't want to get into, so as long as this goes according to plan, we're good.
So I could use all the prayers you've got !

His surgery is at 9:30 am EST on Friday. As you can imagine there is much stress and worry involved here.

So, loungers, how about some of those marvelous vibes pointed to Toronto and the surgeons who are entrusted with such a painstakingly sensitive surgery and for Adam, that he comes through this ok.

7. It is really rough .. Adam is pretty much immobile now

He spends his days in a reclining wheel chair. His joints are fused together. FOP is horrendous. I've never seen anything like it.

I hope people will maybe take this opportunity to check out the link in my post and read about it. I bet very few if any here have ever heard of it.

Adam's surgery lasted 6 hours. He's not feeling very well at all today which is probably to be expected. He's resting at home now and his Mom is taking real good care of him. No reports of any complications so we'll keep our fingers crossed for a really good recovery.

Thank you ALL so very much for your kind thoughts and prayers. I'm going to send this thread to my sister in law and brother and Adam of course to let them see just how you all are :)
