Wireless Router Setup Help Please!!
Ok, I'm trying to set up a new router at my parents' house. Done this a few times before, never had a problem.

So, I set it up, connected to my brother's desktop PC (Dell, running Vista). Had an issue getting him connected to the internet, but eventually that worked out.

Then, I tried to get the two laptops connected. One is an HP, running XP, and the other is a Dell running Vista. Neither of these laptops have any trouble connecting to other wireless networks.

Took a bit of resetting/restarting to get them going, and both of them currently say that they are connected to the home network, with excellent signal strength.

BUT, when I open up either IE or Firefox, neither of them can connect to the internet. :wtf:

Also, for some reason, I can't get the Linksys router configuration page to open on my brother's computer (192.68.1.1)

HELP! This is driving me insane.

1. You said "new", but that could mean "new here". If it was used elsewhere, start with a full reset
And don't go with the 30 second crap. It can take damn near a minute holding that stupid button before a Linksys will REALLY reset.

2. No, brand new, out of the box
And, it's a Linksys WRT54G2, btw.

4. Mine's a 54G without the 2...
I always use a physical cable to hit the router configuration. I think you can do it over wireless, been a while, but I would have disabled that anyway. The first test is to open a MS DOS window on the PCs that can't hit the internet and ping 192.168.1.1. If you can't do that, I'm not sure you are really connected. Also, is it secured or open? It is always easier to test the connectivity on an unsecured router and then apply WAP or whatever you'll be using.

5. By the way, I got a set of 10" rabbit ears for that sucker and it boosts the range like crazy!

3. Unplug the cable power, then the router power
then the computers. Wait a few seconds. Replug the cable in, wait until all the lights are up, do the same for the router.

Boot the computers back up. you should be good to go.

I've had this issue every time I add something to our network, but seems to do it.
