63. Second vote for Under the Banner of Heaven.
Easily Krakauer's best. He's like a dog with a bone once he gets ahold of something. And he's been instrumental in helping the "authorities" bust the FLDS. He's on them mercilessly.

Fortunately, I read them in high school, and laughed at them at the ripe, old age of 16.

13. god, I read them, too. Well, couldn't get thru Atlas Shrugged,
but read The Fountainhead.

And didn't one of the characters have super-red hair? There was a guy in my high school, same year, with really really really orange red hair, and he was really very gifted in mathematics. But he read Ayn Rand and all of a sudden thought he was John Galt, or whomever it was in the book with red hair. Became a totally insufferable prick.

Am I remembering this about her character correctly?

No bungee jumping

No parachuting

No horseback riding

Any extreme sport, in other words!

Joining a conservative church

Becoming a Republican

etc...

But I am a really lousy rider.

The last time I rode a horse, I fell off...and it was traumatic. I wasn't hurt, but.......

I've never been comfortable riding; I have no idea why.

11. A short list:
Edited on Mon Mar-16-09 03:08 PM by Tommy_Carcetti
Kill a person.

Voluntarily go into a combat zone.

Visit the Reagan or Bush (Senior or Junior) Presidential Libraries.

Do any type of illegal drugs--Haven't done any yet, have no overwhelming desire to do any in the future

Move out of Florida or to any type of cold climate

Vote Republican in a State or National election (although I'll admit Charlie Crist is making that a bit difficult as of late. He's actually been making quite a few correct decisions).

Get divorced

Become estranged from a family member or close friend

Give up being an Orioles fan

Ditto on the OP's Ayn Rand statements

Actually, I did that in my early teens.
Then it was fun.
Now? Not so much.

Break dance.
Rap.
Windsurf.
Go to a NASCAR race.
Attend a ballet.
Hang truck nutz on the trailer hitch.

Vote repug.

Quit smoking.
That MAY change, however.
Stay tuned.

Quit drinking Scotch.
They'll pry the bottle from my cold, dead...you know.

Scrapbooking, quilting, 'fantasy' any kind of sport.
Get a hair transplant.
Or combover, for that matter.

46. NASCAR can be fun if you've got the right connections
Edited on Mon Mar-16-09 08:02 PM by mentalsolstice
My husband has been to several races at Talladega. The one I went to...we literally parked up against the track wall, and we were invited to sit in sky box seats. So we had free drinks, starting out with bloody marys in the morning, free buffet that changed throughout the day, and private potties within 10 feet. The people around us were non-rednecks. OTOH, I've been to Charlotte where we spent 3+ hours in the rain waiting for the track to dry, no bathrooms, food, or drink in sight, and the hike back to the car after the race was 2+ miles in knee-deep mud. Never again!

I'm just saying, if you get a really great opportunity, don't pass it by.

eta: I'm not NASCAR fan, I'm more into Indy racing, so if you have the opportunity to visit Barbers Motorsports Park outside of B'ham, really try to do so. We've had many wonderful days out there with a picnic blanket, wine and cheese, in a beautifully landscaped setting. And the motorcycle museum is one-of-a-kind, they have cycles going back to 1904.

but I'll never do it the same way as dude in the picture. The Hubers are freakass freaks. Total Supermans of climbing ability.

I'm too old for that free climbing walls shit.
