Amish Man Stranded In Canada (No Photo ID - Homeland Security)
:eyes:

<snip>

AN AMISH man who visited his ailing father in Ontario, Canada, over Christmas has not been allowed to return to the United States because he lacked photo identification, a requirement of border security aimed at thwarting terrorists.

The Amish adhere to the Bible's prohibition of "graven" images, but US officials told the man that photo waivers once granted to them had been cut off due to security concerns.

The man's wife and child remain in the US.

The border policy was altered when the Department of Homeland Security absorbed the Immigration and Naturalisation Service, said lawyer Mark Knapp of the international law firm Reed Smith, which took on the case.

Amish scholars say the restrictions could adversely affect the Old Order Amish who have historic ties to Pennsylvania and travel regularly from the states of Indiana, Ohio and Pennsylvania to Ontario, where there is a huge community.

1. Those Amish can be terrorists you know, I have proof
TRUE STORY!!!

I spent 2 summers interning at the PA Dept. of Agriculture (I have a biology degree and studied plant sciences - that's why I work with Unix at a Credit Card company today).

Anyhow, I had this great summer job where we would drive around the state all summer tracking the spread of crop diseases - smut, rust, mold, et al.

The toughest folks to work with were the Amish of Lancaster County (which is the heart of Amish country). They wanted nothing to do with the government even though their crops were just a haven for all sorts of fun crop diseases. At one Amish farm, I had dogs sic'd on me and another the guy started throwing ears of corn at me. Real terrorists towards government employees I tell ya.

Ironically we dealt with Amish in other parts of the state. In Perry county (my home county) the Amish were just the nicest people. I had one guy beg me to figure out why his pumpkin crops were rotting away (we sent a specialist to look over his crops).

So there you go - Amish, the real terrorists!!

15. Alright, I've got to call some of you on this one
On one hand, you have customs not able to "profile" people coming in to the country. This is a policy that all progressives can agree on, as profiling leads to targeting ONLY Arabs and other brownish people.

Then, we have an article here about this Amish person not being able to cross because he didn't have a photo ID, in other words, he didn't follow the rules that everyone else has to follow.

So what am I not getting here?

17. And we know he is Amish how?
Remember, he has no photo ID? A domestic terrorist can't appear Amish? They can't grow a beard and wear out of style clothes? You have to look at it from the perspective of a border guard, they are paid to be paranoid. They are also paid to follow the rules, not interpret them.
