I need to vent about a couple of bad exercise programs.
Well they're not bad... they're just not really exercise programs, not IMO. There are these two shows on Fit TV that are focused as much on providing eye-candy as some kind of exercise routine.

One is called Namaste, and the other is called Shimmy. I recorded both these shows in an effort to get a variety of workouts, and found out with both shows, that they're not so much about workouts.

I understand the concept of making a so-called workout video that spends a good chunk of time on nothing but titillating camera shots involving slow pans and close-ups of the most popular *female* body parts... but does that really belong on a network that's supposedly dedicated to helping people to get fit? I know it's just my opinion but really they don't provide much in the way of instruction or exercise.

Namaste I made the mistake of trying years ago... but it was just yesterday that I tried Shimmy. And it ticked me off more than it should have because I only had three workout shows recorded and that was the best of the three (one was too advanced for me, the other was aerobics, which I did the day before). It was disappointing and IMO, insulting.

There. Thanks for letting me vent.

1. The two best video workouts I've ever used are...
The basic Windsor pilates, and the Fluidity Bar workout (gotta buy the barre, but it works better than anything I've ever used before--I LOVE it).

They both work, and the hosts are non-annoying, which is a huge thing for me.

2. I like the Windsor pilates one all right...
but I prefer more strenuous stuff like Cathe Friedrich's and Gilad's workouts.

Even my yoga has to be strenuous. Inhale on Oxygen is great. :)

10. You might like the fluidity bar, then.
It looks very mild and low-key, but absolutely kicks your ass. It works muscles you didn't know you had, and you'll start to see results FAST. It's my most favorite workout ever. The only problem (maybe) is that you have to order the portable barre (but you can probably find a used one cheaper on craigslist). It folks up & stores easily.

I'm ignoring but LOLing DS1's "fapfest" comment.

13. Thanks... I'll keep my eye out for a second hand bar.
:)

3. I remember the early morning exercise programs from the late eighties.
And who said watching aerobics was boring.

5. Early morning or late night?
If they were run late at night on network tv, they wouldn't bother me so much. Those shows weren't presented as if they were actual exercise programs.

8. Yeah I don't need a clip.
I know what you mean.

If I had been someone trying to follow along to the aerobics routine while it showed a close up of some woman's ass I would have called and read some programming director the riot act. That crap belongs on late night tv... it is not for exercise.

9. The yoga guy on Fit TV is good
He comes on very early in the AM. I like him,

It's A LOT HARDER than it looks.

Gilad makes me laugh. He's so buff, it's not really about the exercising so much.

Shimmy, don't you get the impression they had to put on pants to satisfy the censors? ;-)

11. There's a yoga guy on Fit TV?
I like the guy on Oxygen who does Inhale. He's funny. :)

Gilad's not about the exercising? I always get a good workout from his shows...

And yeah... that Shimmy crap... really... if they're gonna have that on... I want hot beefcake doing sexy crap for my amusement too. x(

12. Agree -- I never do those. I need more cardio and resistance than those provide.

15. There's no cardio at all in either of these shows.
And hardly any strenuous movements at all.

14. It's a shame.
Whenever there's a demand for an un-patented product of any kind, the hucksters, the dishonest, and the incompetents, are going to swarm in to get a piece of the action. It does get tiresome and maddening to have to be on guard all the time. x(

16. I'm not against making "workout videos" for guys who are into
watching women work out... whatever.

Just don't frickin present them as actual workout shows.

19. I have posted here previously how much I like Namaste and Shimmy.
Neither time was it to espouse on what great workouts they provided.

Gone are the days of Kiana Thom and her early morning mates.

20. It wouldn't be insulting if they weren't trying to pass it off as an exercise show. (nt)
