14. yeah, but long a if followed by an e after the consonant, right?
otherwise short a sound. But with scientific terms all bets are off. :rofl:

5. I just checked pronunciation at m-w.com and the short "a" is the first pronunciation.
http://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/apricot

Maybe I pronounce it like this because I grew up in Oklahoma/Arkansas; whatever the reason, the short "a" feels comfortable to me. :hi:
