Stitches in your mouth...they are supposed to dissolve. They are just irritating me

and NOW

I am sick of these stitches


I think they hurt almost as much as the hole and they itch

1. I've had ones that didn't dissolve

they had to be removed. They're so annoying, aren't they??

2. TM had oral surgery in Dec. and the stitches, while horribly

annoying, were the dissolving kind. I think they would have had you come in for a follow up if they weren't.

Try to avoid any 'tongue probing'. I think you will feel better. Let the tissue heal over the sutures.

The swelling has gone down some

but everything is just irritating the crap out of me

4. I should have been clearer. The follow up should have been to

remove the stitches if they weren't dissolving.

If you are having trouble with pain, try some clove oil. You can get it at any pharmacy and it was the treatment of choice when TM got dry socket on New Year's Eve.

It's amazing how the simplest remedies can be the most effective.

Seriously, though. Try not to 'tongue probe'. You will feel better. :hug:

When we were young, my mom used to say if we stuck our tongue in the hole, we wouldn't get "golden teeth"

stupid now, but it was funny then and I remember it

7. Did you do any of the salt water or tea bag stuff earlier

when you first got back from dentist and the soreness and bleeding was a concern?

Just curious if that worked for you.

9. I cut my stitches out on day two. The stitches hurt more than anything and I just

said f*** this! Guess it took a while longer for my holes to fill in. But I don't regret it.

12. Some of the jaw bone becomes exposed due to a blood clot not forming

soon after the extraction.This can lead to a painful infection and pus, etc. occuring.

13. No. I just had a hole where the teeth used to be. It closed in over time. Food didn't get stuck

in there or anything.
