I have a small question for you folks who build your own computers
Who thought it was a good idea to make computers that can double as freaking ARC WELDERS?

In my email today is a message from newegg.com about the wonderful new Intel Core i7 Nehalem 2.66GHz 130W quad-core processor they are selling for the low low price of only $288.99 complete with heat sink and fan.

130W? One hundred thirty watts? Surely that can't be right.

Turns out it's right, and don't call me Shirley. Fucking chip pulls 130 watts? HOW? And is this the wave of the future?

1. Some of the high end 128 processor graphics cards pull like 700W on their OWN!
They need their own fans and power source. And yes, they work in PCs.

As for the "wave of the future", the Mac Mini has a maximum continuous pull of 110W, but only 13W when idle.

7. Ah, but will the Mac Mini perform to the same level of horsepower?
Uh, no...

Let's be equal when it comes to comparisons. It's the only fair thing to do. Some people need processor power. Others don't.

9. They haven't let me in the geek clubhouse for decades...
I got kicked out when I bought my first Mac...which was a 512K Enhanced. Half a meg of RAM and a double-sided floppy drive...man, I thought I was a freakin' Bad Ass!

Still, tell me: what makes a chip need to draw that much power?

10. I love Newegg too.
Great in every way, and when I'm on the fence about something I find the user reviews to be really helpful.
