Edited on Thu Mar-05-09 09:51 AM by Tommy_Carcetti
....that while it is quite apparent that while none of us can agree on what makes a band a great rock band, we can agree that THIS:

is not a great rock band, a good rock band, an average rock band, or even a pathetically mediocre rock band (a la Nickleback or Creed), and furthermore, anyone that does THIS:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-3Ki2DJfhns

to "Another Brick in the Wall" does not deserve to live as a free man in society.

Can we all agree on that?

2. Is there anything about them that's genuine, and not just trite laughable cliche?
Tattoos, stupid beard on the drummer, banging their heads around, the fucking asshole arm movements of the singer, the way the guitarist and bassist bounce around - fucking hell, nothing original. All cliche. All without integrity or honesty.

Ronnie James Dio should execute them, and Obama should give Dio a Medal of Honor.

Edited on Thu Mar-05-09 09:50 AM by Tommy_Carcetti
That's a surefire sign of musical talent, I'm telling you! The man is carrying a torch!

He has a song to sing, and he desires to carry a torch while he sings it! What don't you understand about that!!!!111????!!!!!!!!! JEEZ!!!!!!!!

8. Oh, that's right - I forgot about the torch rule. Like I always forget about the "pretty face" rule.
"She's cute - her music is great!"

"He has a torch! Holy shit, this is awesome music!!!!!!"

"Oh my God, the drummer has a long goatee and a beret! HE'S THE BEST FUCKING DRUMMER EVER!!! And look at those tattoos!! THAT GUY IS FUCKING SERIOUS!!!!!"

11. Don't forget the guitarist who got Born Again and quit the band
I forgot his name, but GIYF. Another bad heavy metal cliché: guitarist makes a load of dough and does some blow and ho's, and then quits to find Jeebus in an orphanage in India. Mother Theresa would be proud.

29. Both Korn and Limp Bizkit appeared at Woodstock 1999.
I'm not a fan of either, but I remember seeing on TV the huge crowd of 18-year-old headbanger males watching Korn.

7. I concur
Korn is a heinous affront to all things decent.

Ugh! White boys obsessed with hip-hop playing shitty music for adolescent suburban punks circa 1999.

Plus, I can't stand the sight of bassists who wear their instruments around their knees. Just another bit of visual evidence that musicianship is trumped by image in shit bands like Korn.

16. It's not about their race
It's about white guys co-opting an art/style of black/African-American origin and selling it to white suburban adolescents.

Korn didn't invent it. This kind of shit has been done by white artists for generations.

But, hey... if it makes you feel better to think of me as a racist, then have at it.

24. I didn't say or think you were a racist; your inference is, however, juvenile
Music is music. It doesn't belong to anyone, so it can't be co-opted.

It's the equivalent of saying 'white quantum physics'.

26. I guess we just differ on this
Some forms of music are the product of specific cultures, and many cultures are, to varying degrees, race-specific.

Would you agree that hip-hop, at least in America, is a product of African-American culture?

BTW, the 'white quantum physics' thingie is what we call a straw-man.

And no, that argument was not in the least a straw man.

9. They will be featured artists at
Suck-a-Thon 2009, and later in the summer at Suckapalooza.
The beard, tats and torch mean they are fine musicians, yet express the angst of their generation.
Or some such shit.

18. Can a Keane, Lifehouse, Coldplay, Maroon5 fan agree with you?
I frequently take shit for my taste in contemporary popular music but I can withstand the criticism. Especially since I adore Pink Floyd and don't usually get much grief for that.

28. Well, it's just like Floyd's ABiTW....
....except in place of actual singing, there's just screaming in a audible sound which can best likened to a rabid badger, and in place of actual guitar work, there's simply the same three droll chords repeated over and over and over again.

But yeah, other than that, they're the same.

that remake of Phil Collins Something in the Air Tonite?
I heard that the other day and threw up in my mouth a little. As far as bad remakes of songs go it ranks up there with that remake of Stairway to Heaven someone did back in the eighties.:puke:
