4. It was the most heartshattering piece of literature I've ever read
It had a profound impact on me.

5. Someone lent it to me over Chris -- er, the holidays, I mean.
Just getting around to it now 'cause I thought "Why did she drop a Cormac McCarthy into my bag o' SF books?"

Now I know. Looking quite promising indeed.

6. Just finished it. Heartbreaking.
It was poetic. I haven't read a book in a single sitting in a long time.

7. it's excellent....
Like most of McCarthy's work, it isn't "uplifting," at least not in a happy smiley sort of way. It's emotionally devastating. But what a story.

I love Cormac McCarthy's work. You don't read his novels for grins-- you read them for the awesome power of his intellect and the impact of his stories. They haunt me after I read them, sometimes for years. That's the power of literature in the hands of a master storyteller.

I hope you enjoy The Road. It's a moving book.

8. The part where they meet up with Kerouac is amazing
I loved the book, and in fact I just finished my umpteenth reading last week.

9. Good comments so far. "Shattering". Certainly. Shattering may actually be too tame a word.
I read it in one sitting, too. Absolutely mind-boggling...
