Never owned one. Want to buy one. Do you need to buy software? or do you just buy the thing, film, and hook it up to your computer? Are there any other accessories that are must have? All I want to do is film some youth soccer action when my kids are playing. I have a macbook running osx 10.5.
1. Read the box CAREFULLY for compatibility - and look the model up on the net!
I've got a Sony DCR-HC38 Handycam with 40x optical zoom and I absolutely love it. BUT DO NOT buy a Sony for the Mac. They seem to hate Apple or something and don't have compatible drivers. I suspect that's true for all of their camcorders.
